I missed some of the show, but this is my take on things. As usual, Pink looked like STRAIGHT TRASH!!!!!! Christina Aguilera is a little thicker, but she looked like she just walked in off somebody's corner (I know she was "playing a part", but she went a bit too far). Then again, I think she looks like a cross between a roach and an aardvark anyway. Its a good thing she can really sing. Surprisingly, Little Kim didn't look too bad. It was a very toned down look for her.
I thought Brittany Spears was really cute too. Although they usually get on my nerves, Destiny's Child looked wonderful and I really liked their song with Alejandro Sanz (?). Also enjoyed the Tony Bennet/Billy Joel duet. I loved N'Sync singing "Girlfriend". I love those guys!!!!!! I really wish India.Arie had won at least one award. She had such a good album. I like Alicia Keys and I think she is talented, but I don't think she is as great as everybody else does. Maybe she just has more crossover appeal. Okay, enough of my rambling.

I watch some of the Grammy's but not much because I knew that this year it would be garbage. I mean, I liked the movie O Brother, Where Art Though too, but I am sorry, that "Emmit Otter's Jugband Christmas" knock-off band should not have won best album of the year! AARRRGGGGHHHH!!!!

I really hate that India.Irie didn't win at least one award. Her CD is great. 7 nominations and not one award. That was not cool
Alicia Keys won all those awards and only had two songs circulating the airwaves! I am so sick of "Fallin'' & "Woman's Worth"!

Boo-Hiss...
First of all, the awards lasted TOO DANG LONG! They should have cut out most of that country music...Did y'all peep them playing the music when Alicia Keys and even U2 were giving their acceptance speeches?! I was BUSTING UP when they did it to Alicia, but come on--U2 are living legends...That ain't even right...
And then there was the guy rambling on about how we music fans are disconnected from the artists b/c we download their songs from Napster, Morpheus, etc. So what?! I could tape the song off the radio and share the tape w/ my friends--that's no different!! They SHOULD HAVE cut his azz off...
I like John Stewart and all but he was too rehearsed. I swear, rich white folks will laugh at ANYTHING!!
And on the India Arie thing, that was just F****D UP!! Point Blank!! Seven nods and not one award...Let me have been in India Arie's shoes...I would've been like "FUDGE Y'ALL--I AIN"T PERFOMING A DANG THING?!" I'm sorry, but Alcia Keys did not deserve all those awards she won...I prefer India Arie over her anyday, but as we all know, it's those rich white men in the suits that make the decisions that (supposedly ) represent "us"...To me it looks like U2's Bono was trying to make Indai Arie go out on the stage with them (which would expalin why she held her head down and pulled away from them)...

I hope that Sugar_N_Spice's quote showed...
OKAY!!! Come on now! The Grammys were NOT the place to put the public on blast. I am and will stay a faithful downloader
The record companies are just mad because I have found a way for them NOT to make another $15.99-19.99 offa me. And I still do buy music when I feel like it or if I'm feeling the artist. I don't buy CD's unless I like half of it. I love me some Morpheus...

As I think I've said on this board before.....
Pink looks like an STD!!! When I think of what the definition STD means in the dictionary, I envision a picture of PINK right there next to the definition!
I thought that the whole Grammy's were just "WHACK". The host was horrible, the cue cards that the presenters had to read were not funny in the least. I was LMAO when that one group won an award and came up on stage with about 30 people. It looked like a white version of the Wu Tang Clan, winning an award and inviting their mommas and their baby's mommas onstage. I finally went to sleep.

My Commentary...
1. Did anyone notice the dancer's during N'sync's performance? Was it me or was there a sister on stage showing them a thing or two?
2. Mary SANG the hizzell out of that song!!!
3. It was messed up that India Arie did not win not a single, solitary grammy. But there is a myth that whoever wins best new artist is never heard from again....(ex: Lauren Hill). So it maybe all downhill from here for Ms. Keys
4. Beyonce and the kids took a break and Destiny's Child made a comeback! They sound much better without Beyonce wailing. And they're dresses were tight!

I actually enjoyed the Grammys this year, despite that it was longer this year. This is the first year in a long time that I watched them all the way through!
Anyway, to comment on some things:
I thought Jon Stewart was pretty funny, but I've seen him be more funny than that.
I thought all the performances were pretty great this year. I even enjoyed DC's performance w/ Alejandro Sanz. They DID sound good in Spanish. I was still slightly annoyed though just b/c Beyonce gets on my nerves. And Kelly's hair is just WAY too red for me. Their dresses were very pretty though.
Nsync/Nelly--LOVED IT! Although, I felt like their mics were low or something. Nelly and that chain....ridiculous! I just had to laugh!
Lady Marmalade performance--GREAT! I guess I'm on the opposite side of the coin about Christina's outfit and her tan. Frankly, she needed a tan! And her outfit...yes it was scandalous, but hey, they sung the theme for Moulin Rouge. They're SUPPOSED to look like that. I don't know....it would be totally different if they were out there dressed like that and singing something not related to the movie. Just my opinion. Oh and I know Patti is a legend, but they should've kept her off! She did not sing, she howled! lol Actually, I wish they had let her sing a verse. That was her FIRST time performing on the Grammys! They should've done better than that.
Alicia Keys vs. India.Arie--Hmmm, I guess I'm on the flip side of this too. I think both are great talents, but when you look further than just sounding good, I feel Alicia has put WAY more into her career (since they've both been discovered) than India. Maybe I'm out the loop (I don't really think I am), but India hasn't really been OUT there like Alicia. Alicia has done 2 major (or pretty major) tours, she did a little concert special on MTV, and she's been pretty much everywhere (radio and tv). To me, I haven't seen India being marketed the way Alicia has. Therefore, I think Alicia won b/c more people know about her. If more people know you, obviously you're going to get more attention when it comes to awards and what not. So, that's probably one of the reasons Alicia got 5 grammys. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but there's some logic to it. I bet there were more people in that audience that didn't know India than Alicia. But that's just my take on it. I'm sure India will get her chance at a Grammy next year. She just needs to get some better PR!
Last thing--I didn't know anything about this O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack. But that song they sang, "I am a Man of Constant Sorrow", I have to say that I really liked it! I was all hummin it after it went off :P That was really cute. I don't know about the soundtrack winning album of the year, but that song was good. AND (last thing I swear), I'm glad Nelly Furtado and Missy won Grammys.

I totally agree with the above. I just want to add a bit more. Someone said it earlier, but Patty should have done more than howl! She is one of my all-time favorites and I was so disappointed. I like both India.Arie and Alicia, but Alicia was out there. Her PR people were working it.
I've always been a big Billy Joel fan. I haven't seen him in so long. I loved the duet.
I'm so glad Brittany wore some clothes.
I enjoyed NSync and Destiny's Child performances.
Nelly Furtado's speech had me CTFU!

I forgot to mention this but the gospel performance was really weak. I was truly disappointed. They said KIRK FRANKLIN, but alas, no Kirk. That performance seemed totally random.
Overall the Grammys had PERFORMANCE overkill. I felt like I was at a free concert with speeches.

As I was watching the Grammy's, I was certain that you all were either on line critiquing the show or reserving judgment for the next day..I guess I had both right.
Here are my comments:
1. I was blown away with Mary J.'s performance. Like #1 Leading Lady, I thought that at the end of that performance, Sister "Johnson" was going to have to put the white sheet over her...because it seemed as if she was all soo close to catching the Holy Ghost on the stage. The performance was not only electric, but came from a place of authenticity...Mary told her testimony....NO MORE DRAMA! She absolutely ripped it. That was the highlight of the show for me.
2. Why does Pink look like Enigma from Batman when he was on meltdown?
3. I think that it is a shame that India.Arie didn't win an award. My heart kept going out to her each time that her named was announced as a nominee, but never for the Grammy. The show was supposed to be all about Nelly, Alicia, and India (per the advertisements in Ebony, Vibe, Rolling Stone, etc.) and she was the only one of the three to walk away with nothing... But, I do believe that Alicia's PR people are tight...I was entirely too tired of seeing that child's mug by Grammy night...
She was everywhere...on the cover of Seventeen (a great move for her because that age bracket purchases a lot of CDs), Ebony, Jet, inside of Essence, and on almost all of the major TV outlets...she has truly been all over the place. And, to tell you the truth..it has annoyed me because I kept hearing her over, and over...but its clear...that's what it takes. It works like that for the Oscars...for political campaigns....everything...the more people see your name...the more they will vote for you. I really didn't see India.Arie getting her PR thang on like that.
4. I think that U2 was trying to get India.Arie to come out with them. And she was letting them know that its cool.
5. Did she go home and cry? Hmmm now lets see...if you had poured your heart out on a record....and have provided folk with a meaningful message...what would you do. Probably shed a few tears. But, for her, she will need to meet with her PR people and get them to work better with her to get her name out there next time.
