I'm right there with you. My brother had me watch Jaws a little too early in my childhood. I didn't learn how to swim until I was 20. I'm going to Hawaii this summer and am already freaked out about swimming in the ocean.

Also, spiders. I had a dream that one was big enough to cover my entire bedroom ceiling. Still get freaked out when one is around.

Fires and tornadoes. The scene in the Wizard of Oz when the witch sets the scarecrow on fire was terrifying to me. I had recurrent tornado dreams. I still get pretty anxious about tornadoes when we have a warning but am also fascinated by them and watch all the tornado chaser type shows on The Weather Channel.

The Kiss faces. My brother had Kiss stickers on the outside of his bedroom door, which was directly at the end of the hall so you couldn't walk down the hall without them staring at you. When they finally went public without their makeup, I still found them all to be creepy!

I used to freak out about bad weather from like kindergarten to 3rd grade. I watched the weather channel all the time and storm warnings made me sick to my stomach.

I've grown of the weather thing but one fear I have not grown out of is electricity. LOL Okay, I know that sounds weird, both my parents work for the local power company (it's how they met!) and I've heard horror stories of accidents on the job site. That's the only rationale I can come up with for my fear, anyway.

The one that got me was the one where the vampire came out of the movie screen and terrorized the teens who worked in the theater. I couldn't sleep for a month, convinced he lived in my closet.

Stooooooppppp!!!! *covers eyes*

I was scared of just about everything so the list is pretty long. I'll give the abbreviated version:

*Ants (the only actual phobia I've ever had)
*Chucky from Child's Play
*The Crypt Keeper on Tales from the Crypt
*When Ursula dies on The Little Mermaid and you see her skeleton
*The Thriller video (I still can't watch this alone and at night)
*Ghostface from the Scream movies (again, cannot watch these alone at night)

Aaaaand finally, my fingers would often spasm as I was falling asleep but, being a little kid who knew nothing about muscle spasms, it was much more plausible that little dude from Leprechaun lived under my pillow and was trying to eat my thumbs.

I was raised on horror movies (read: My dad showed my 2nd grade sister and I the Hell-Raiser movies while my mom was moving the family from ND to NC), so none of the "horror" type stuff bothers me.

One of my childhood friends told us about "Mary Worth" & her legend. After that, I was always scared to go to the bathroom at night in the dark because I'd always think of the story.

Is that like "Bloody Mary"? Two of my adult daughters still won't look into a mirror at night!

I think that it is similar. I don't remember much about the story, but supposedly if you looked into a mirror in the dark she would show up. If you did it with a group of kids & chanted her name she always did (a bunch of kids could always imagine this). It was sort of like a seance, which we did a few times. One time the mother of one of my friends joined us & that time it was really scary.

My mom took me to see Wizard of Oz when I was about 3. It was in one of the old big theatres. It scared the beejeezus out of me and I cried all the way home.

I still don't like that movie.

I'm like Christiangirl, the list is long as a kid...

The movie Aliens (Mom has a thing for Sci-Fi movies + we grew up watching Elvira)
The Terminator (Screamed in Mom's coat for first 5 minutes of the movie=had to be taken out of theater)
An American Werewolf in London (or Paris) don't remember-but HELL NO!
Pirahana (sp?) (anyways-brother convinced me that Mom had ordered some to come to the house for fishtank Dad gave him--Damn boy!)
Darth Vader (called him Dark Vader)
The Gremilns--still hate that damn gremlin Spike--little evil Mofo!
Carlsbad Caverns=the dark

The thing about Carlsbad Caverns is that when I was three, my family went RVing to see my grandparents in TX. OK, so why four adults decided to stop there, I have no FREAKING idea, but, in the RV, was my Uncle, two Aunts, and one MIL (Uncle's) and there were 7 children between the ages of 1 to 8 or 9. Anyways, I was 3 and we went down into the cave. I was with my Aunt Rita (I think) and after going down by elevator, we hit the floor and began walking in the cave. All I remember is seeing the stalagmites and tites and being FREAKED THE (*^^(&&&% OUT! Next I've been told is that my Aunt hears a tiny voice singing (yes, the story and song are famous in my family) and the singing becomes louder and longer! She then turns to my other aunt and tells her "I think we better get this girl outta here for she loses it" or something to this effect, and I just remember going back up and into the LIGHT!!!!!

I forgot, I saw a really old episode of Sesame Street from the 70's when I was younger with Snuffleupagus in it. I instantly became terrified of him.

Snuffleupagus still makes me uncomfortable.

E.T.

I know. Lame. But holy crap that movie scared the living bejesus out of me. I vividly remember going to bed that night and putting every single stuffed animal I owned around me and writing in my diary every stuffed animal I had around me (because you know that those stuffed animals were going to protect me). Even though E.T. was a "nice" alien the thought of aliens freak the hell out of me. Needless to say I cannot, nor will I, watch E.T. to this day.

I am terrified of spiders. My nightmares usually consist of a spider landing on me in my bed (I'm usually in a not quite asleep or awake state and see a spider coming down from the ceiling and landing on me and I wake up screaming. My parents now ignore my screams).

Seaweed

I was afraid of seaweed as a little girl. Walking on the beach, I would tip toe through it. My dad would say that it was just like the grass on the lawn. I still didn't believe him.

I still don't like seaweed on the beach. I can swim by it but it creeps me out.
