Nice outfits. But what is meant by "Skits and Financial" for Round 2? Do they go over the costs of each house during the recruitment period? Is this common? At my school the info was available in a discreet way (i.e. handouts) since it does come into play for some girls' decisions...but they didn't do "presentations" on this. But then again, when I went to college, they didn't do Philanthropy round either!

I think they just discuss the costs, living out vs living in, other obligations etc. Although it would be really awesome if they worked it into a skit somehow.

My school had each chapter give PNMs a handout and they told us what info had to be on it. It is nice when a school does this because you have everything in front of you and can take it home and look over it.

This has been done at Carolina for many years. A sister will come up and grab you, seat you in the dining/chapter room, chat while everyone else files in, then she says "I'll be back after the skit." Then you watch a skit that has nothing to do with financial info. Usually just songs with some overall theme. Then the sister comes back, talks for a minute, then says "I wanted to go over our financial obligations with you" or something like that. It is a little awkward and contrived, but all the houses do want you to have this info early on. I think it's online at greeks.unc.edu, but they go over it anyway and ask if you have questions. Sometimes they tell you about the chapter's financial plan, if you want to pay in installments instead of at the beginning of the term. Then you move on to other topics. It is worth looking at the financials online, because I think there is about a $1000 difference between the most expensive and least expensive houses (or at least there used to be).

Yes, go here for the financials:
http://greeks.unc.edu/index.php?opti...=475&Itemid=40
Carolina Panhellenic is very responsible in wanting PNMs to know costs up front. The room and board costs at most of the sorority houses are very reasonable given cost of living in The Thrill.

The Thrill = Chapel Thrill = Chapel Hill
Or at least it used to, in the olden days when I was in school.

Yep, it's still the Thrill! I started classes yesterday and am loving everything about college, but it has been pretty stressful getting adjusted to everything. I've met some super sweet girls that I'm going to get ready with once rush starts, there's a promo event in the pit in a couple days, and that's the last event before kick-off!

I got your story mixed up with a non-Carolina story, so I'm posting here the advice I erroneously posted there.

As with all schools, please go into rush with an open mind. Some years there is a lot of fierce competition during rush, and a lot of freshman arrive on campus having heard all sorts of stereotypes about every single house. It always has baffled me that this goes on there, considering how smart UNC women are. You will find just about every major in every sorority, extensive community involvement, and a lot of sisterhood. Maybe there are a few girls in each house that fit the stereotype, but the majority of them are great women. I never met a Greek woman at Carolina who didn't have friends in other sororities. Furthermore, with the Greek community being small at Carolina, relative to other southern schools, you will end up having a lot of friends not only in other sororities but also outside the Greek system. I am hoping the days of tent talk and stereotypes are coming to an end, but if you hear any, please remember that it really is largely a non-issue once rush is over. Find a home where you feel comfortable in your own skin and where you think you can have both a fun and productive college career.

It sounds like MandyPepperidge is more involved in recent recruitment efforts there, so I'll let her be your guide, should you have any questions, but I hope she agrees with me that all the houses have their share of superstars and sweethearts.

Best of luck!

Hey everyone! I just wanted to let you know that recruitment kickoff is today! I think we are just going to get some general information and meet our Rho Chis. I got a call from my Rho Chi last night, so I already know what group I'm in. I just have to finish up my homework, then I'm going to go get ready. I'll update you tomorrow and let you know how it goes!
