OK, I just died laughing because on Family Guy tonight, Quagmire's dad had a sex change and he said that they pushed his penis up inside of him to make it disappear. GIGGITY GIGGITY GOO.

She could mean that she has a hoop ring going through her nose piercing (like the nostril). But yeah if she does have her septum pierced then a stud won't help much.

Yeah, that's why I asked, because it makes a huge difference in the advice we give. I guess she could get a small dumbbell shaped stud, but a septum piercing will be pretty out there with regard to piercings.

I know that my chapter is not discriminatory towards any body piercings or tattoos. A majority of my sisters have one or both of them. If a sorority decides not to give you a bid based on your appearance, then they aren't worth being a part of. Appearances are not the important part of being in a sorority; being willing to put your best foot forward and being a great sister are two of the most admiral qualities a girl can have. (:

I don't think most people would actually DISCRIMINATE based on appearances, but some piercings can be distracting (more so the lip stud than nose ring, depending on what either looks like of course).

Even a distraction of a piercing shouldn't matter. I mean, that is a personal opinion. If someone looks like they could scare me witless, but they would be a role model sister, I think I would be more inclined to give them a vote for a bid than say no.

You have to be careful giving that kind of advice to someone when you don't know the culture of the campus she will be attending. Not every campus is the same, and what will get you cut at her campus may be different than yours.

I wouldn't necessarily say I'm giving advice, so much as giving a personal thought to the matter. But I understand what you're saying about campus atmosphere being different and the standards for being cut are varied.
My only advice for anything on such a matter would be just to be who you are and go from there. Wanting to stay true to yourself and finding a sorority that accepts that is better than being willing to change yourself to fit a sorority, well, at least that is how I see it.

You're naive if you think appearances don't matter.

If you're a candidate for a job at an ultra-conservative company, you would need to take out piercings. You may be qualified for the job, but if your appearance doesn't fit the company culture, you likely won't get in.

Same thing goes for Greek organizations.

What about being able to steer the boat?

Your sorority's rush process is completely different than the one this girl is going through, so please...stay in your lane. KTHXBYE.

Just curious, what does "being willing to put your best foot forward" mean to you?

Part of growing up is realizing that you are not your clothes/hair/piercings/etc. You begin to realize that you can be the same person but dress differently in different situations as appropriate. If you think you can't be you without your piercings for a few hours a day over the course of a week, you've got some growing up to do.

I was simply telling you how some sorority members will perceive you. You came here and ASKED that question!

Personally, I think your piercings shout out "desperately insecure trendster." As long as you have holes in your face, people will make assumptions about you. To compare your decision to mutilate your body to someone's ethnicity or anything else they were born with is pathetic.

Of course you'll be the first one running here to complain when your oh-so-unique self doesn't get a bid.

I don't know that I'd go that far - different people get piercings for different reasons - and I don't think it's "mutilating" your body anymore than laying in a tanning bed for an hour every day or frying the bejeepers out of your hair by straightening it every day (both of which plenty of sorority women do).

And I don't think she said piercing = being an ethnicity. She said those are both things that people judge you on. (Although two of the things she mentioned - being blonde or being fat - ARE things that you can change if you so desire.)
