Mackenzie Phillips: I slept with my own father

I'm wondering if so many people are grossed out by her story, how many people will actually buy her book? I am one of the ones that actually believes her story and no I will not buy the book but, I think she should have the right to tell her story and if this is only was for her to release the demons that have plagued her for 30 years or so then who am I to judge.

What really got to me was that she said she knows she's not the only one that this has happened too as far as having the consentual (sp) relationship. Who knows maybe she'll help someone else.

Society has made sensationalist topics a part of our entertainment.

I was watching the news at my internship (hey, a girl needs a break sometimes ) and someone noted that this might encourage people in similar situations to speak out and have their abuse stopped and their abuser punished. OK maybe I'm just weird, but I don't see how ANYONE would get that message when MP waited till 10 years after her abuser died to finally speak up. That fact by itself sends a huge message, one that (IMO) kind of overshadows what she's saying. A agree with Munchkin, there were several ways to use this horror to help other people and this just doesn't seem like one of them. Now, if each purchase of her book resulted in a donation to an organization that helps abused children, that'd be something that would make this more inspirational, helpful, whathaveyou.

I think she's full of shit. She's tried to restart her career numerous times and come up with squat. I don't deny that she had a very messed up childhood, but this is beyond. She probably promised Chynna a cut if she would back her up.

FWIW, Michelle Phillips agrees with me and she and John were definitely not on the best of terms.

Whether it happened or not, writing a tell-all book, going on Oprah and doing interviews about it seems more like it's about money than actually helping people.

Hell, volunteer for an abuse charity or incest survivor group if you want to "speak up."

Same here. There's not much I wouldn't believe about John Phillips, but this is just eeewwww.
