This story has been bothering me. Really, really bothering me. So sad and gross if it is true. Her father giving her drugs and having sex with her...her having sex with Mick Jager (wasn't it he?) when she was 18.....

She said she kept it a secret because she didn't want to ruin her father's reputation. Umm...thanks for sharing now, I guess.

I'm always surprised and shocked when I hear about incest. The celebrity status makes it material for mainstream media. It also makes me wonder why the hell we're being told about it all these years later.

The Oprah factor adds to my "why the hell" wonder.

I am not all that surprised anymore...I think I am more surprised to see that in order for some celebs to retain any relevancy , they resort to tell the world about their dirty secrets.

That's why you hear about things like this years later.

"If Valerie can come back out of nowhere and make money for Jenny Craig, tehn why can't I sell my story and do the same?"

I think it's gross that it happened but I don't feel one way or the other about her in particular sharing it. I think incest is one of those things that is swept under the rug and probably needs to be more "demystified" for lack of a better word.

If publishing the book and being on Oprah helps her in someway to release any demons, then I'm happy for her. However, that seems like a huge stretch, and I can't watch Oprah today. Her appearance on the show is just disturbing and seems to be a need for attention like DaemonSeid said. But if it helps one person out there, then...okay. I'm still so disturbed in my heart at the idea of years of consensual incest with her father.

Similarly, it will sell a shit ton of books. It's hard to ignore that part.
