Trust me I know of the possibility, but after all it's just a discussion on the internet.

(*minus the whole popped collar thing, because again, no one really does this, nor should they)

Bless your heart. "Helpless Southern belle" is, of course, an oxymoron. There is no such thing.
|
But, don't you know that part of our upbringing is learning how to work the "helpless Belle" angle to get what we want from witless and stupid men?
Haven't y'all seen Gone With the Wind???
No offense to Elephant Walk, who I find really entertaining, but I find it pretty funny to read about "Old South Frattiness" from somebody from Arkansas. I know I'm a Texan, which has its own ridiculousness (and I would never purport myself to be an expert on southern frattiness anyway), but Arkansas? Really??

Well Vineyard Vines has been argued about. Most would go Southern Proper over VV.

I like some Southern Proper stuff, but it really seems like they try too hard to be "Vineyard Vines: The Southern Edition;" it honestly looks like they're stretching to create some "Southern" iconography that's not really there. The creators of VV developed a true lifestyle brand based on a very specific style of coastal living.
I can look at some Vineyard Vines things, and why they're included makes sense to me (like the belts with the MV and CC street signs, or any of the stuff related to whales). Much of the SP items, on the other hand, make me scratch my head.
Since it's a newer company, SP has a considerably smaller product line than VV (at least for women), which will probably dictate its market share for a while.

I agree on all.
But the "coastal living" part of VV is what appeals to most Southern Fraternity men.
Most of the big time Southern schools are fairly close to the coast.

Ok, with the whole "helpless southern belle" thing... 33girl said it first!
But seriously, that's not how I know women from the South to be. It's just one of those stereotype things... which I thought was the topic of this entire thread. I didn't think my post implied that all Southern women are helpless. I simply said if someone treated me that way, I'd probably think it was hilarious.

Oh absolutely...because people in the North have no idea about the value of the dollar...
Seriously?

But the reason i went to sigma pi is because me mom is a little sister of sigma pi at ASU and all my life i have known these people who are sigma pi's and they are great people who have all gone on to be successful. I also looked at Sigma Nu, which my dad was. All his sigma nu friends, and i do mean all, are in very ill health from drinking and various drugs, and he told me he didnt think i should go there. And my grandfather and uncle are both Kappa Sigmas, and i thought they were way too big for me and just wouldnt be the right place.

You're pledges aren't gentlemen already? That doesn't sound fratty.
Sorry about your dad being a drug addict though.
