I went to high school with a guy who was a pathological liar. He told some people that either he or his dad had a GTO, but no one had ever seen it. I don't know what he told people when they were over at his house. It became a running joke.

I can't remember what else lied about, but they were pretty out there. There was some lie about a famous person or sports team...hmm...

I once promised a friend I'd pick her up at the airport. Her plane got in at 5:30, but she didn't clarify for me that she meant AM, not PM. So I got my acting together and started crying and told her my car got stolen (from an attended parking garage) and I couldn't come get her. Later on that week, she sees me cruisin around campus in my car, and I told yet another lie that the cops found it and dropped it off to me (dose that even happen?). One of my other friends questioned why I didn't have to go to a lot to pick it up, so I then said "yeah, my insurance covers the drop off fee too." LOL, so to answer the question of why people lie and stuff, once you start, you gotta keep going. And really, I just didn't feel lke drivin to the airport at 5AM! It's like, an hour away from campus.

P.S. No need to worry, my car is perfectly fine!

Lying is lame and pathological liars can need counseling (not saying you're a pathological liar ).

It is a downward spiral and you should've just told your friend that she didn't clarify AM or PM. That's the simple way.

Edited Because: I think I was being too hard on you. You may've lied because you thought you were going to lose your friend if you told the truth. Everyone has told some untruth or withheld info to some extent. I guess it depends on the extent, what you're lying about, how frequent, etc.

Lying is the bomb...under certain circumstances. I enjoy teling colorful lies to strangers online and in person. Some of the reactions are priceless. Try it sometimes.

And I am telling the truth here!

Of course, I don't do this to people I know.

Do you really lie to these strangers or are you playing a character? As in "DITY?"

Whatever the case, at least you don't lie to people you know. That would be scary.

I personally believe that there is a girl who does this in EVERYBODY'S high school because everyone I've ever told this says "OMG there was a girl at my HS that did this."

There was this girl who would CONSTANTLY LIE about being pregnant. I mean every other month, she would come to school with pictures of a positive pregnancy test and be like "OMG I'm gonna have a baby!" Then she would "have a miscarriage" and "get pregnant" the very next month. She would come to school with baby catalogs and be picking stuff out like "OMG if I have a girl I want this nursery!"

She would say stuff like "OMG it's kicking!" Dude, your stomach is FLAT. If you WERE pregnant, it would so not be kicking after a MONTH.

There was one time she brought in this ultrasound picture and was like "Hey everybody come see my baby!!" She was creating a distraction so the teacher told her to hand it over, she looked at it and was like "This iis from 1984 and has your mom's name on it."

Back in the day, I dated a guy who I later found out to be a super liar. Out of all the stuff he told me, the only thing that was true was that he was a Mason.

I worked with a woman who claimed she had a masters degree in some very technical field and because she had so much experience, all she had to do to get her degree was write a paper and submit it on the Internet. Yeah. I'm sure it was a very valid degree. And I'm SURE if she really had such a degree she'd be working as a clerk in the advertising department instead of in that field. My coworkers and I used to joke that we were really a brain surgeon, a rocket scientist and a nuclear physicist and just worked in the department for fun - just like her.

My sister-in-law, in addition to being a complete idiot, is a pathological liar. She will hear something that someone is joking about, or speculating about, etc., and in her brain that translates to the gospel truth. So the very next day she'll start going on and on about whatever off-the-wall topic it was as if she is the authority on the matter. It makes me sick, but it's also a little sad. At least if the girl were intelligent, she might actually be able to make her lies a little believable. But she has actually said things to me like, "Did you know that it's a proven fact that all babies know all the secrets of the universe until they speak their first word and lose their innocence?" Dumbass.

We met a group of guys on spring break and one of them was a classic liar. According to him, he made $80,000 a year and had a full ride to college. The guys had the hotel room that adjoined ours, so we ended up spending most of the week hanging out with them. And we used the liar as much as we could- we would let him pay for all sorts of things since he had so much money .

About 6 months later I ran into one of the other guys from next door at Halloween at OU and he told me that all of the guys had pretty much stopped talking to the liar.

oh come on, who lies about being prego in HS?

there was a girl in my HS who SWORE her uncle was Busta Rhymes - her mom and "uncle" own a couple of laundromats in Flatbush and would always be like "come on my block and see whats really good."

which translates to "POP OFF POP OFF" if you called her bluff.

and then there was that guy who really thought he was Memphis Bleek... would try to "sell" his album, which were really burned copies of the CD with a photocopied album cover.

oh i know other liars, but thats for another time.

OMG this reminds me of a time when a girl from my school used to SWEART to God and back that her uncle was the Owner of the Beverly Hills Hotel.

This bish would always say how she spent all her summers just lounging around the hotel and how she would always run into Leonardo DiCaprio (this was during the time Titanic came out).

She would say how she would run into Kate Winslet and Leo making out in the hallways of the hotel, and how she was always tagging along w/ them to "awesome movie star parties."

So one day I asked this bish for an autographed signature from Leo. Ok, so we live in Texas. I asked her for the autograph on a wednesday, by Friday she had a napkin w/ LEO spelled out (seriously, exactly how i typed it L-E-O, printed in capital letters). I looked at her like for reals? I turned around, ripped up the napkin and never talked to her again.

Let's see...A friend of my professor was talking to her friends about how hard her labor was and how excruciating the pain was before her epidural--he just gave her the face, but didn't say anything because he was the only one in the room who knew she and her husband had adopted. She was so emotional about it that he wondered if she had told the story so many times that she really believed herself.

I actually got really sick of people giving me dirty looks when I was with my nephew because they thought I was a teen mother (like I really had a baby at age 12). People would come up to me and ask me if he was mine. So, when I was like 13 or 14, I made up this elaborate lie about how I was raped by a distant cousin and realized I was pregnant. I couldn't take care of the baby so I gave him to my sister to adopt, but she still lets me spend time with him and I'm agonizing over when to tell him the truth, if ever...people fell for it EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I know that was so wrong and I'd NEVER EVER EVER do that now, but what can I say, I was a pissed off, smart-mouthed teenager. I actually wrote it out in college and turned it into a short story. It was pretty good. My friend made up a similar story about being abducted by aliens--she's from Roswell and got tired of people asking her about being abducted, so she came up with this detailed 10-minute story about her abduction, complete showing them the scars from her "surgery." It helps that she can cry on cue and actually has scars on that arm. It ends with her 'remembering' an alien whispering the word "gullible" in her ear over and over.

We're so bad.
