Downey High School - James Hetfield. Lead singer of Metallica
If you sit on one of the benches at Senior Square, you can see where he signed his name in cement when he was still in high school. It's become a shrine to stoners & wannabe's there.

Two years later in 1983, he won the Academy Award for Best Musical Score for the film The Right Stuff.
Fred Francis (Class of 1962) – Senior correspondent for NBC News.
Steve Carlton (Class of 1963) – After graduating from North Miami, he began a long career in professional baseball as a pitcher with the St. Louis Cardinals and the Philadelphia Phillies. He won four Cy Young awards for his pitching skills and his slider pitch – his signature – caused many a batter to strike out. He retired from baseball in 1988 and the Phillies retired his number 32 the following year. In 1994, Carlton was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown in his first year of eligibility.
Ronald (Ron) Book (Class of 1971) – Prominent Miami-Dade County attorney, political lobbyist for the City of Miami and Democratic Party fundraiser.

Miami Coral Park Senior High School
Miami, FL
Jose Canseco - pro baseball player
Maty Manfort - TV talk show host
Lili Estefan - Spanish TV celebrity
Yes, I went to school with all of them. Jose would've been c/o 82, if he had graduated, Maty was c/o 83, and Lili was c/o 84. I was c/o 85.
Steven Bauer - actor
formerly known as Rocky Echevarria
Graduated way before my time, but in a strange coincidence, I ended up meeting him @ a South Beach restaurant about 10 years ago, when he joined us for drinks.

No way! One of my older sisters was Downey High Class of 93 & my cousin was class of 94.
My other cousin was Downey High class of 98 and my little sister was class of 2000. I wonder if they knew each other?
I attended Downey for 2 years (93-95) before I got kicked out.
