Okay - let's say he just "forgot" to put on his ring. He's still out at a bar in the wee small hours (and we GRITS remember our mammas telling us nothing good happens after midnight!) with a woman other than his wife KNOWING that he could be photographed a la his beer pong adventure. So is he stupid? Forgetful? Really wanting to be put in a position to have to stop the show? Inquiring minds want to know . . .

Going to bar with guys after b-ball and forgetting ring - no problem.
Going to bar with woman (not your wife) and forgetting - problem.

Absolutely.
Also, there are a ton of men--my father included--who don't have wedding bands. Actually, neither of my parents have wedding rings. According to the GC powers that be, they're terrible philanderers with no family values whatsoever!

My brother doesn't wear a wedding ring - he used my grandfather's for the ceremony.

There's a difference between running into someone in a bar and going there with them! Geez, according to some people on here, my friend John (who is the nicest, kindest, most gentlemanly gentleman and dedicated family man I know) must have @#$%ed my brains out because he gave me a ride to my car one evening. If Us magazine had taken a pic of us, it would have looked exactly like that picture of Jon and the random chick.

Jon has already addressed going out with his female friend (at least sort of) - http://www.nydailynews.com/gossip/20...her_woman.html
And I too have male friends - but I tend to have coffee with them, not drinks while I am with them alone. Perhaps had he not had the beer pong incident people would not be questioning him, but imho going out without your wife to bars is a problem when you are hanging out with women, not your male buddies. At the very least, as he should know by now, it doesn't look good. The fact that this incidents seem to happen when either he or Kate is away from home is also suspcious. And it wouldn't be a problem at all if he weren't heading a wholesome family show. I've already written that I'm done with them, but all this just confirms why.
I feel for him - he doesn't want to be doing the show, he's married to Kate, he is under enormous pressure with 8 kids and media attention. It is not an easy situation. That's one reason I think he could be, whether he realizes it or not, be making a bid to have the show cancelled by his inappropriate behavior.
Oh, and my husband doesn't wear a wedding ring. He hates jewelery.

I will admit I do not like the show, and I dislike Kate.
However, they live in a small town in PA. Everyone knows who they are. So even if Jon goes out without his wedding ring on, everyone knows hes married and who he is married to. So unless he comes out an proclaims that they are separated, I really don't see what the big deal of not wearing his wedding band out. Maybe he is the kind of guy who doesn't like to wear one - has anyone ever noticed on the show if he always wears it?
Also, him going out with woman late at night and calling her "babe" is kind of suspect. But noone knows what their relationship is. So while its an easy jump from: no wedding ring, drinking with strange woman and calling her "babe" = cheating. I think the media might just be hyping this up. I guess its been a slow gossip week since Lohan split from Sam Ronson.

Exactly! I mean, I understand that Kate and Jon have problems, but what marriage/relationship doesn't. Ok, yeah Kate is a little overbearing, but honestly I don't see it as a big deal. Maybe because my mother is exactly like Kate, seriously---I bet a lot of y'all wouldn't like her (and you'd say the same things you say about Kate) if she had her own show. But my mom isn't like that 24/7, and I seriously doubt Kate is as well.
I think it's wrong to say that its OBVIOUS that Jon is miserable in his marriage, because honestly we don't really know what Jon was like before Kate. All we know was that he was going down "a wrong path" before he married Kate. Jon isn't the perfect husband at all, he's got his faults, but it's not like he's turned out like that because of Kate.

Well, it might not be okay to simply say he is miserable in his marriage based on this one incident - but when you put your life on a reality show, and spend a great deal of the time on it looking miserable (I'm thinking especially of the last interview of the season which I caught because my mother insisted on watching . .. ) you've got to expect people to draw their own conclusions. Just like any other reality show, you will be judged based on the show - look at how people love/hate teams on TAR, or Hell's Kitchen, or Survivior. Do they know those people? No - but you do get to observe and then form an opinion.
Some JK+8 kool-aid drinkers would defend Jon were he found naked in a room with a prostitute - when I first told my mother about this, she immediately said "US Weekly makes things up." It simply could NOT be true, and now that Jon has actually apologized and said what he did was wrong, she still isn't convinced. So I imagine the show will continue, and this will be a little bitty bump in the road.
So maybe I'm TOTALLY wrong. Maybe Kate and Jon are happy as clams at high tide, and Jon was simply discussing great works of literature at 2 a.m. while Kate was out of town with his purely platonic female friend whose actual name is Babe, thus making us all look foolish for thinking anything untoward. Maybe - but I doubt it. I also have to ask - if what he did wasn't wrong, why would he apologize? (Cynical answer is obvious, I know - to preserve his image for the show. )

Oh I agree that he looks miserable, but I don't agree that it's because of Kate. Jon, from the beginning, has looked miserable. He's a really pessimistic person....always criticizing someone. I don't know if it's because with age he's getting more cynical or if he was always like that. But to blame Kate is a little harsh. I'm not saying that she's made it easy on him, but its not completely her fault.

Why hasn't anyone asked the obvious question: with Kate out of town promoting her book and Jon at the bar, who was watching the kids??!!
I quit this show two seasons ago, after they isolated the kids from other family members and before they turned into an infomercial for whatever product Kate was interested in getting comped.
As to Jon's mea culpa that it's stressful being on TV all the time, Duh; don't you think your kids feel the same way?

This is the prime reason why I've told the boy that, if he doesn't want to wear a ring, he can have one tatooed on his finger.
Seriously, what is it about "celebrities" that make them want to go brain dead when it comes to potentially damning photos?

Maybe he is far from brain dead, perhaps he wants to get caught. If he wanted to seriously scromp around, I honestly think he's intelligent enough to do it and keep it on the down low.
