ETA: When Obama takes the floor at the Democratic Convention to officially accept the nomination it'll be 45 years to the day of Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech. How's that for history?

It is truly amazing.

I've hesitated to further express my disappointment w/Hillary with Hillary supporters at work or on blogs as many Hillary supporters respond to constructive criticism of Hillary/praise of Obama with threats/promises to vote for McCain or not at all...

I read other posters on CNN that said they posted something not along the lines of the warm and fuzzy for HC and it wasn't posted either. So I don't know if the donation part had anything to do with it but a lot of folks were saying that they asked nicely for her to cease and desist but their post didn't show up either.

It should be mandatory that all wives “dap” their husbands up (the exchange between Michelle and Barack before his victory speech in Minnesota)....black love is not only strong but it’s cool as well.....lol.

FoxyLoxy,
Don't mess with her supporters right now. They are still very emotional about a very long and hard fought fight. I think that no matter how much they threaten to vote for McCain, when they go to the gas pump or think of a relative in Iraq, at the end of the day, even if they don't vote for Obama, they will vote against McCain's policies. Or heck, maybe they are rich and don't mind paying $4+ dollars at the pump. If that's the case, let 'em go. If they don't care about us staying in Iraq and continuing to risk the lives of probably some of their own relatives, then wow, let 'em go. If I could vote for someone that might get my relative out of Iraq and maybe save his/her life, I'd personally fork over the vote. But don't mess with them right now. They're emotional. Just like with anything, there is a good time to discuss any issue and a not so good time. This isn't a good time for them, I'm sure. Maybe once more time passes. At any rate, HRC's policies are alot closer to Obama's than McCain's in general so I don't buy that all of those people are going to vote for McCain. But hey, it's a free country. If they want us to be at $5 or $6 per gallon led by the man who claims that he doesn't know anything about the economy, when the economy is in the shape that it is, it's their vote. I wager to say that disappointment about the outcome is not going to cause millions of people to continue to fork over money at the pump (personally), have their relatives lives risked in Iraq (personally), pay 300% more than we used to pay for airline tickets (personally), continue to remain unemployed (personally). Come on, who is going to sacrifice their own livelihood b/c of disappointment. That is contrary to human nature - and furthermore, they've got to make ends meet at the end of the day like everyone else.
But don't mess with them right now. They're upset.
ETA: Also, a large part of the problem, I think, is with the leadership. It comes straight down from HRC herself. Look at her behavior. If the leader is showing her behind, then it does not set a good example for her supporters to follow. If she were the bigger politician, I think that the tone with her supporters would be much different. To me, it's like anything else, the leader sets a tone. This is why I think that Obama's supporters would have been much more open to voting for HRC. B/c he sets a tone of respect for her. She does not return the favor. Therefore, she sets a poor example and her sour grapes attitude and below the belt tactics bring about a negative effect on the openmindedness of her constituency, I think.
Look at her. She still has not shown Obama the respect of truly congratulating him. She has shown him little or no respect whatsoever. It is unacceptable and not unlike other acts in this country's past that have been considered to be indicative of an "I think that I'm better than you" attitude. As much as her and Bill were supposed to be so supportive of AAs, she could not acknowledge the significance of his win to AAs in this country? Unacceptable...and it makes me feel that those 8 years were a little disingenuous. It is the proverbial elephant on the table that is intentionally ignored by the honory, spoiled child...or the adult that thinks herself better than the other. Given this, I am GLAD that she did not win because I see her behavior as not that different from what has been shameful about this country for hundreds of years. What is her behavior all about...really?
I feel like she showed John McCain more respect than her own fellow party member. I wonder why....

My significant other and I dap each other up. It's cute and we're silly. I was pleasantly surprised to see the Obamas do it on stage.

LOL, hol up, playa, didn't you just call her a "whining embarrassment"? yesterday.
I mean I feel your fire. We know that anybody challenging SC's favorite law professor is going to get a face-full of SC real quick. lol
...on the real, though, maybe a broader view of this is revealing.
Basic politics 101 says you don't jam up the candidate that just beat you --especially if you want him to choose you for something. Her Tuesday speech should have been a gracious valedictory of what she's accomplished and what the party can accomplish in November. If she couldn't muster that up, she should have postphoned her remarks till Wednesday. She did herself a disservice, at least among her political supporters.
Her actions Tuesday, including her trial balloon earlier in the day, said basically "I don't know that I want to concede anything to you just yet -- but can a sista be your VP" <--that's non-sensical anyway you look at it, partisanship notwithstanding.
True, she's coming off a highly pressurized situation -- but they deliver pressure before the first cup of morning coffee in the White House. It makes some wonder, is this indicative of her strategic thinking under pressure?

TonyB,
Actually David Strauss was my favorite prof but I enjoyed Obama's class as well. I only had a chance to take one class with Obama but took about 3 with David, and he spoke at our graduation too. Plus, he thought my comments were insightful... so that could be coloring my viewpoints. No, in all honesty, I was fortunate to have a number of very intelligent/borderline genius/down-to-earth professors. I would not be surprised if Strauss' name is on the short list if Obama is elected Prez and an opening for the Sup Court comes up. He has argued before the U.S. Sup Court almost 20 times and is just an all around good guy. But I digress....
Yes, HRC is so honory that she can't even *pretend* to be bigger than she is. The good thing is that if you watch someone long enough, he/she will show themselves. I think that this has come to pass.
On another note, what do you think about Obama's announcement that the DNP would no longer take money from LOBBYISTS.
Thoughts TonyB?

you, you, namedropper, you. I'm impressed
Regarding Obama's DNC lobbyist/PAC policy No, for real, though, I heard that lobbyist PAC money for the DNC represents only about 1-2 percent of all they take in, so it's impact is more symbolic than anything. But it's something his supporters, and independents looking at Obama, can feel good about.
*well, I guess everyone except the lobbyists who must apparently all be the scum of the earth*
But since we asking all kinds of crazy questions, ahem, ahem will an Obama victory be sending a certain former student to DC? (you know law school connections have been known to work out pretty well for peeps....)

Tony, you're funny. No need to be impressed - that's my former profs, not me. I'm just a lowly, unappreciated law firm slave. Nope, I have no interest in being in politics. Much luck to my classmates who might want to ride the train to D.C. I'm content to be just a person who knew him at this point. Not trying to be "on" 24/7 like that. Tires me just to think of it.
