I was walking the hallways on my way to lunch when our financial clerk and a teacher's aide (both Latio males) were approaching. The clerk began stomping around and clapping. He's a silly guy as it is but I didn't understand what he was doing and neither did the aid. He turns to the aide and says "She knows about that. She's part of stomp the yard."

True, it was a teachable moment but I didn't feel like it--I was on my lunch break.

That's kinda funny. We are not in individual orgs; we are Stomp the Yard.

I totally agree w/ you about the teachable moments, but sometimes (like my story about the guy at Express Oil Change) I just don't feel like it.

LOL! My older sister went to college when I was in the fifth grade and a lot of her friends pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha. I remember hearing them talk about it and at the time the only thing that I thought AKA stood for was Alpha Kappa Alpha, well one day we were in math class and this girl next to me asked me what AKA stood for. I looked and her with a big smile and said "Alpha Kappa Alpha! The best sorority to join!" She looked at me with a look and said "Katie wrote me a letter that says "To: Tiff AKA Shorty"...I don't get it..."

When I think about it I can't help but laugh and feel so ignorant.

I hate that movie because of that lol

I went to Walgreen's about a week ago and had letters on. The cashier stopped checking people out, walked out of her register area, and yelled out "Delta...Sigma...Theta?" I kind of gave her that wtf look and told her "It's actually Omega Delta Phi Fraternity. She responded with "Omega..Delpho..ahh forget it, there's too many letters. You'll just be Delta."

Not quite, ma'am. But I had to laugh at it.

(sorry to quote such an old post. I'd never seen this one before)

Wow, talk about necroposting.

Ok here's one: After I crossed and I was working the front desk in the dorm on one of my shifts (I was an RA at the time) one of my residents looks at my line shirt and wondered what the letters meant.

So I told her, "Kappa Alpha Psi".

And her response was, "oh, is that a new organization or something?"

*Sigh*

This one was more of a statement...

Right after I crossed, I was at the airport to fly home for Christmas. I was checking my luggage, and being the neo that I am, I travel in paraphernalia. I had on an "AKA 1908" hat (I've worn the hell out of it too!) The lady checking me in then hands me my ticket, and cheerfully says:

"OK, **(my name)**, ALSO KNOWN AS nineteen oh-eight, here's your ticket, Gate B1."

I took it and walked away kind of confused. It wasn't until I was waiting at the gate that I started chuckling, "ooohhh I get it."

I've heard of people making these mistakes:
AKA= also known as
DST= daylight savings time
PBS= public broadcasting system
any others?

KAPsi= KAY Jewelers. With all those diamonds, it's natural to get the two confused.
