Did you know that Alabama is called the Yellowhammer State? It's also known as the Heart of Dixie.

"Alabama" means "tribal town" in the language of the local Creek Indians!

Did you know that the Alabama state flag, a crimson St. Andrew's cross on a white field, patterned after the Confederate battle flag, was adopted in 1895? The bars forming the cross must not be less than six inches broad and must extend diagonally across the flag from side to side.

Did you know that the Alabama state butterfly is the eastern tiger swallowtail? The state freshwater fish is the largemouthed bass, but the state's saltwater fish is the fighting tarpon!
