Very true.
Good luck with everything.

Thanks for clarifying about PMA's purpose. In my experiences, the campus chapters have stuck more closely with the music department and are not very involved on campus. I think that's (at least) partly due to the fact that the advisors of the organizations tend to be from the music department, so they encourage that tie.
Good luck with your efforts!

No problem. Like I said, music departments on some campuses are simply more insular than on other campuses. From my observation, I would say the bigger the campus as a whole, the more insular the music department (or school) is likely to be, though that isn't always the case. Part of it is historical (especially for chapters that were established during the time when we were indeed a professional fraternity) and part of it is, for want of a better word, campus culture.

The NIC should not play a part at all. As far as the NIC is concerned, each campus IFC is autonomous of the NIC with membership decided at the campus level. So if the campus administration is playing the *NIC card* and saying that "not being in the NIC is enough reason not to be a part of the Greek Council's new IFC branch", they are wrong.
Now the down side is that since the NIC does not have any policy regarding a campus IFC, the campus administration could decide to exclude non NIC members. However, if they do, then that "rule" has to apply to all fraternities. And if that was done on some campuses, that might exclude two international fraternities - Kappa Sigma and Phi Delta Theta. So when the administration refers to "how other schools work", you can point out that on campuses with either a Kappa Sigma or Phi Delta Theta chapter, non NIC members *are* members of the IFC.
Best of luck.

But, remember, for all intense and purpose, they supposedly are supposed to represent ALL of the IFC GLOs.
Hm, makes us wonder if they really do????
