Let me look here... it was published in 2006. Somewhere I read that the authors went Greek in South Carolina. Looks like they almost always call it 'recruitment' in the book. I see a couple of uses of 'rush', of course that could be because around here, that's what people still use. When I hear alums asking PNMs about it or when PNMs are discussing, they tend to still say rush and I figure it's because it's easier to ask, "Are you going to rush?" that, "Are you going to go through recruitment?"

Oh FSUZeta, I've become a Smith's fan too! It's right by the zoo entrance and I spent some time this weekend as well as at the one in Homewood.

It addresses tricky issues like legacies and how to deal with cuts. It encourages women to maximize their options. Recs, what to wear at various kinds of campuses, rushing a second time are also covered.

I think it would be especially good for the PNM who's clueless about the whole process. The do's and don'ts are great.

The only goofs I can see: in the back, the book says that Coke's colors are red and white because a founder's wife was an "Alpha Omega Pi"; also, that there's an arrow on Wrigley's Gum because the founder's wife was a Pi Phi (wasn't that disproved?)
Wow...they didn't care about printing unsubstantiated rumors did they? Love the Omega, but the story isn't even right. We have no idea whether or not there is really a connection between Coke choosing red for its color and AOII. The only thing we can prove is that the daughter of the first bottler of Coke was a loyal AOII. My chapter benefitted from Emy Lou Beidenharn's generosity for many years and continues to after her death since she remembered us in her will!

I haven't seen the book, but I know I've seen similar errors (not the omega for omicron, though) in colleges' official recruitment materials, so it doesn't really seem that bad.

I'm pretty sure the UGA Pointer listed Carly Simon as a famous AGD back in the day.

You know that thread we have about famous Greeks that never were? It lists lots of mistakes made online and in recruitment guides. Anyway, I've seen sooo many of these made on Panhellenic and individual sorority websites. The most common one on Pi Phi websites is that Sally Field and Susan Lucci are Pi Phis.

For years, the rumors about the Wrigley arrow and Parker Pen arrows being due to Pi Phi wives of company founders were accepted as true by members. I don't even remember anyone trying to debunk them. Anyway, our national magazine debunked those and many other Pi Phi rumors a couple of years ago.

After reading this guide, I'm guessing that one author is an ADPi and the other a Kappa.

This is what happens when we don't force our pledges to recite the Greek alphabet while holding upside down matches
I can actually still do this Comes in real handy whilst doing crossword puzzles under pressure.

The DVD will probably have stuff that PNMs and parents can easily find on GC...for free.

Not only that, but they can find information on GC which is specific to their campus as well.

I rest easy knowing that the DVD is a "helpful, humorous" guide to recruitment and not a dirty expose of sororities.

I'm thinking about contacting the producers and seeing if they can help me put together a how-to DVD for all of these new posters who want to start their own sororities. I would include helpful tips such as:

--be sure to send your pin to the Smithsonian so that it can be put in the "Voted Most Beautiful Pin" collection.
--send a copy of your ritual to the Library of Congress.
--Don't forget to send your pin to NASA so it can be sent to the moon on the next space mission.
--be sure to register your new sorority with the National Fraternity and Sorority Agency (for all of those posters who wonder who they need to contact about their new org to make it "official". Uh, student activities?)

Maybe not but I'll accept any double dog dares in exchange for a review.

Funny! If you actually made a serious dvd for it though, it would probably sell like hotcakes. There seems to be one every minute.
