Excuse me! I LOVE Greekchat. I love the intellect...and the Bvllshit!

I love the challenge and the agreement. I love the discourse laced with occasional profanities. I love it!!!

I think it is an acquired taste!

I don't think that people on Greek Chat are any ruder than people in real life. I say snarky smart ass things in real life, just as much, if not more than on Greek Chat.

I also think that we live in a cynical society, and today's standards are a lot different than even 30 years ago. We don't respect authority just because we are told to, and for the most part the people on Greek Chat are well-educated and well-written. (Although that doesn't apply to trolls.) You don't get my respect just because you post here, you get my respect by the things you post.

Some posts you make, especially the one about Phi Beta Kappa come off as condescending. I'm not one to say "all glos are equal," but there are different criteria for choosing candidates for all glos even on the chapter level. Your posts seem focused on numbers and I don't think being Greek is at ALL about numbers. To me it's about bonds, and history. I'm proud of my sisters at every chapter, even the tiniest. I'm proud of the rich history and tradition of my sorority, and of other GLOs. I find NPHC history FASCINATING, along with the history of all GLOs. Each and every one has a story to tell, what makes it unique and different.

That's just my 2 cents.

Rude? Moi?
I'd say 98% of the people on GC are not rude - the other 2% is made up of morons and trolls - neither of which merit losing sleep over. There are without a doubt those on GC who are opinionated and brash - but as has been pointed out, "rude" behavior is often simply disagreeing on a topic, or commenting on another post. I like to think I'm not rude, but on occasion I have been, shall we say, straight forward in explaining why I felt someone's post was indicative of a lack of intelligence or excessive self-absorption.

Because hastily-typed, not-proofread and misspelled-for-all-eternity thread titles really get me chapped.

You are awesome!

I cannot imagine making such vile statements in a face-to-face converstion with someone (or if you do you must get a lot of fat lips!). Let's pray that not many potential members check out this site as this behavior will surely chase them away from Greek life.
Too bad the detractors followed you over from the Phi Beta Kappa thread. I totally agree with your observations. I lay part of the blame at the feet of MTV and rap music. Kids listen to incredible garbage today and are completely desensitized to words and language that we never would have considered using.

I do think, despite Mr. Darden's chest-thumping identity revelation, that typing away at a remote computer instead of speaking face to face with someone makes bullying and poor manners even easier. My kids have shown me some of the things that their friends--who I actually thought had pretty decent language and behavior--have typed on facebook and instant messaging. It is sometimes shocking.

Culture and society have definitely coarsened. That makes me sad. Now I will await the flurry of snarks that will undoubtedly follow.

PS I do visit two other chat boards that have much better manners. One is a financial site--pretty neutral topics ie budgeting etc.--but the other is political. Even there people don't make the mean-spirited, personal jabs that they do here.

You have all of 6 posts. So either you're some random person whose opinion we shouldn't care about, or you're a sockpuppet. If you're a random person, way to join a message board then just start bitching about it and its members. If you don't like it, why did you come here. If you're a sockpuppet, well then hope you like that keyboard courage.

Oh please. No one made any personal jabs at oldu (at least not until he called everyone angry and rude); they merely called into question the argument that s/he seemed to be making. If it is unconditional acquiescence s/he searchs for, s/he will not find it here (and maybe its best that s/he goes elsewhere). Disagreement does not automatically equal rudeness.

ETA: If society has indeed coarsened--which, if the biography I am reading about Elizabeth I is at all accurate, it hasn't really; it's different, but certainly no more coarse--then I mostly blame the parents, not the TV.
