Joining an Alum Group Question - Page 2

i recently moved to ireland and emailed and got some fabulous responses from the UK/Europe alumni chapter today! so i am excited for that!

yay for sthrnzeta!! i am so glad that you invited our sister from susquehanna to join you. who knows, a fabulous friendship might be on the horizon!

we have a diverse chapter in naples, agewise, from girls who recently graduated to women in their 70's. we can't all make all the events, and i don't think that anyone expects us to, but it is helpful to pay dues , keep contac information current and go when we can.

i can find things to talk about with our more senior members as well as the newly graduated sisters. i would suggest that when you go to the dinner, put on your "rush" hat and rush every one you meet-even though you are the newest member. make a real effort to get to know these women, so you can decide if this is the right alumnae chapter for you.

FSU, thanks for the good advice. I feel so silly - I got my nails done today to make sure I looked my best! But I do feel like I'm rushing again - almost as if I'm on both sides of it. I want to make sure they like me and I want to make sure I like them. And I'm super excited I'm brining another Zeta that myself just met! It's true what they say, Zetas are everywhere!

Ok, so I went to the meeting/dinner that the Aiken Alumnae chapter held and the girls all seemed really nice. It's a small chapter that's also fairly new. Most of them had graduated recently from Kappa Pi but there were a couple that were slightly older and had gone to other schools in the south - I think me and Elisabeth were the only ones who went to Northern schools. The prez talked about not having done elections when they were supposed to and how she and the New Member advisor (I think) wanted girls to think about shadowing them for the next several months so that they could pass the torch - the prez has been in her position for a few years now! I don't blame her for wanting to step down! I'm not saying I want to be prez, but it sounds like a few advisor positions and alum EC positions will be opening up soon and I always felt like holding some sort of leadership role helped me stay really involved and I felt like I was more a part of things if I had a job to do. I wasn't able to talk to the GA, as both her and the prez had to go meet with one of the collegiates to discuss their golf tournament coming up later in the month so I think I will e-mail both her and the prez to discuss my options. I was glad to hear that the alumnae are really involved with the collegiates and they do a lot together (I don't think Augusta is AS involved as Aiken is and that was something I was looking for). Me and Elisabeth both really liked the chapter (she was so glad I invited her because she's kind of shy) and I think we're probably both going to join this one. I know, I know, I haven't really given the Augusta chapter a chance, but you gotta go with your gut I guess and I think it'd be neat to join with another girl in my position so we'll both be new

The only thing that stinks is that it's a 45 minute drive to Aiken, whereas you can get anywhere in Augusta in less than 20 minutes, and if I do any sort of advisor role, I'll be driving there about once a week

Oh, well. I'm still going to sell the raffle tickets for Augusta (sold two at Aiken last night, LOL) and help out and keep in touch with them as well (they're my sisters too!). Overall, it was nice to meet some other Zetas and I'm definitely excited to get back into the swing of things!

Thats wonderful news Melissa! It sounds like you have found a Zeta home. But keep in mind you can belong to both chapters if you want. I think you will love being an advisor, I know I do. Its challenging at times, but so worth it. Good Luck and keep us updated!
