I was surprised by this, but the more I think about it the more I like it. I was rooting for Doug D, but I think he would have ended up just being a young Bob and probably a poor imitation at that. They need someone totally different from Bob so they can make the show their own.
makes sense logically, as he did host the syndicated version of PIR: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doug_Davidson
maybe we shuoldve pullde for him, being in "The Initiation of Sarah" and all

I thought that Todd Newton would've made a great choice ("Hollywood Showdown", "Whammy!"), as he hosts "The Price is Right" live in Las Vegas and is in the prime of his career as a game show host as far as his age and experience goes. However, he is relatively unknown outside of the game show world, which may have had something to do with it.

But he might make a great substitute or nighttime/syndication host though.

As far as replacement game show hosts go, who would've thought that Pat Sajak would've overshadowed Chuck Woolery as host of Wheel of Fortune when Sajak took over in '81 (Woolery hosted from 1975-1981), or Alex Trebek would've overshadowed Art Fleming as host of Jeopardy when Trebek got the job in 1984 (not counting the two pilots Trebek hosted in 1981 and 1983--Fleming held the job from 1964-1975 and did a short-lived revival from 1978-79).

But I've seen worse game show host replacements--anybody here remember Rolf Bernirschke hosting the daytime Wheel of Fortune in 1989?--it was supposed to be tennis star Jimmy Connors, but NBC snatched him out of the job to do other NBC related gigs.

Back to TPIR - Dennis James (1970s), Tom Kennedy (1980s), and Doug Davidson (1990s) all hosted syndicated versions of TPIR--and each did a great job in their own right. Who's to say that Carey won't do a great job as well?

Anyway...we'll see what happens.

I forgot Paul from Young and the Restless did it at one time.

Drew was one of my choices, along with Todd Newton and O'Hurley (who is now doing Family Feud). I personally couldn't see Slater doing it and I think George Hamilton would have been a little too stiff. And don't get me started on Rosie...
