Do all the fat ladies refer to themselves as BBW? I've heard this term lately. I think it's lovely.

I think olestra was pulled for the reason that people experienced "anal leakage". GROSS!!

Olestra wasn't pulled.

Or at least it's still marketed here.

That side effect was well known when olestra hit the market. Alli sounds like something that if you dedicated enough to follow their guidelines you won't really need the pills.

I do like however that in the commercial they use legitimately larger women. I can't stand when they use a size 6 actress and claim she needs to drop weight!

There may be some truth to the oily gas stains... They say on the healthcare professionals site for alli that the side effects are some GI disturbances as well as those other things...

It is a GI Lipase inhibitor that does not allow the cells in the GI tract breakdown triglycerides.

I have not seen the actual clinical trial.

My guess, folks predisposed to HNPCC will be having problems... The dayum thing is a carcinogen and good one... Or cause IBS.

And GlaxoSmithKline is questionable right now...

And this issue is folks pop pills, but don't exercise or eat properly.

Like that darn Special K commercial I see every morning. It's got an emaciated woman in a red top and jeans and her stomach growls as the voice over talks about how eating breakfast is the key to losing weight. Then her roommate heads for the door and she's almost as skinny. Seriously, if you are going to market to people trying to loose some weight, could you at least put someone on the screen whose wieght is in triple digits?!?!? The commercial doesn't make me want to buy their prodcut - it pisses me off that they think people should look that skinny. It makes me NOT want to buy their product...

Hands down one of the best posts I've seen in awhile on here. I'm with AlphaFrog, I'm crying here.

I don't know, these pills seem to provide a "quick fix" when the name of the game really should be "stop eating so much fatass and start working out!"

Who knew Xenical (with all of it's crazy side effects) would ever hit OTC? YUCK! I'm surprised this was approved to be OTC without a doctor's supervision. Then again, I have a feeling that most people won't stick with this one (and potentially abuse it) because of the side effects.
