wasn't hard to find out - the beauty of the internet. I found it by chance one day and it **ahem** made a lasting impression.

Kent State, great job in Basketball so far, but my Jayhawks will win it all the way!
I always hated the Tri Pigs thing. yuck. Or the Tri Sig, everyone else has.
This is one major reason that I enjoy being called a Tri Sigma instead! Or just simply a Sigma

Our Tri Sig chapter at Bloomsburg University has always been called Tri Sig, for as long as I've known them (10 years). Nobody calls them Tri Pig. If you want to lose the "Tri Sigma, everyone else has" thing, wouldn't you need to eliminate TRI from the nickname? Everyone makes nicknames out of every sorority and fraternities letters. I've heard every name in the book for D Phi E, and you know, I just don't even let it bother me anymore. I would hope we're all bigger people than that.

It's not a few of us that have made this decision. It's our National Organization and our Council Members who have made this decision and have told every Tri Sigma that is what we are to be called. Some people do not take it personally, but when my Executive Council members say, "please correct anyone and remind them that we are Tri Sigma or Sigma Sigma Sigma or Sigma's", then I listen and work to correct anyone.

I just wanted to mention that mothers of Tri Deltas are eligible for the sorority Psi Psi Psi, or Tri Psi. There is no sorority for Tri Delta daughters, though.......maybe that is where the above idea came from??
Tri Psi is the only Greek-letter mothers' sorority and the only international sorority for mothers of fraternity women. Founded in 1914 by Delta Delta Delta Founder Sarah Ida Shaw, for the mothers of initiated Tri Deltas, Tri Psi has 26 chapters in the U.S. and Canada. Tri Psi membership is for life, and many members remain active after their daughters graduate.

I prefer Tri Sigma or Sigma. But if you honestly didn't know, I probably wouldn't say anything. My friends and other greeks just refer to us as Sigma.

I know it's really weird, but I hate the dash (Tri-Sigma)..it bugs me so much when people use the dash!!! . I think it's just a personal peeve. I try to let the whole Tri Sig thing roll off my back most of the time when my independent friends use it or other non knowing greeks (an easy way to look like a snotty chapter is to say: "that's Tri Sig-MA", but we do correct each other within the chapter. we're mostly known as Sigma's anyway.

At VCU it is STRICTLY Tri SIGMA-- Anyone who calls it Tri Sig is always quickly corrected-- at the other schools in VA though, it is Tri Sig... who knows... I was told it was my chapter that started the whole lesbian organization rumor and that it just spread... but it's probably all just rumors...

I have personally heard that we don't refer to ourselves as Tri Sig because of a lesbian group in California. I looked up this group, but found that there is a group Sigma Sigma Sigma in CA, but it's not a lesbian group- I believe it's actually a group that helps students. Either way, I'd rather be called a Sigma or a Tri Sigma- it sounds so much better and more proper. Ah well- each chapter probably has their own beliefs.

I don't understand what the big deal is...as long as its nothing degrading (and maybe Tri-Sig is degrading, i dunno) i don't understand why you can't call it by both...and also when i was a pledge and i asked a girl if she was a tri-sig she said "no, but i'm a tri-sigma" it just made her sound really stuck up...

I heard that Tri-Sig is the name of a less than creditable women's shelter in Texas.

Just a note, according to HQ, we should refer to ourselves as Sigma or Tri Sigma, not Tri Sig.

Maybe I am lazy, but unless I am speaking to non-greeks I just say "I'm a Sigma" if they pursue it then I say "well Tri Sigma".
