Seems like this is a trend at this one campus...

Well, that may be the case, but I definitely have seen people wearing Delta Sigma Phi's letters and using their name despite the fact they've been kicked off campus and de-recognized by nationals. It is a common trend at SUNY Buffalo, but our office of Greek Affairs goes out their way to make sure that no one tries to join one of the illegal chapters I mentioned in my previous post.

My frat Phi Sigma Chi actually just got back on campus a few days ago. We couldn't find an advisor (that met IGC's standard) last semester, but have since and are now recognized by the school. We hope and think we will be recognized by our schools IGC (Inter Greek Council) in the next month.

TKE operated without campus recognition for a few years after they lost it due to sporting a 0.6 GPA, then being caught by the Greek Life advisor with a 14 year old girl serving beer our of a keg at a $3.00 all you can drink MDA fundraiser at their chapter house.
They've since regained recognition and have really cleaned things up. Their GPA is now decently high, and from what I can tell, things have turned around.

um, lets see...
at my old school (UNT) there was an off-campus group called "Delta Lodge" that spawned from a SAM chapter that decided to disaffiliate from the national organization and the school, and operate differently? That's the story I've always heard, I asked a friend of mine who's a member if they still retained any SAM ritual in their initiation and whatnot, and he said they used parts of it, which I thought was interesting. If the chapter chose to disassociate itself with the organization, why still use parts of their ritual?
at my current school (texas state) there seem to be a lot of fraternities that were kicked off campus, and i think some of them are recognized by their international organizations, and some aren't. these fraternities are: Pike, DX, TKE and SAE. i think it was a pike member who told me they were still recognized by the fraternity, but don't quote me on that.

At my current school, there are several off campus groups that were kicked off for hazing/alchol related issues. The brothers still wear letters and recruit, but the school does make every effort to get the word out thier that there are only 3 on campus fraternities and that PNM's should be joining one of the three.
At my old school, besides for a local that failed in it's attempt to go national, I do beleive there is one group that is recongized by the school, but not by the international fraternity....at least, that's the story about them that I've always heard, I'm sure AEPhiSierra could confirm/deny that, as she's been around longer then me.

We had a group of Phi Sigma Kappa that was "underground" for awhile - I believe they were recognized by their National, but not by the school. Either way, their letters were still on their house.
