As the new year brings new hopes and new dreams, Alpha Kappa Alpha women rekindle their own individual and group aspirations from the symbolic light first kindled by that "splendid sixteen"
How beautiful, how beautiful were these builders; how pleasant to recall from the dim recesses of memory these lovely women.
Stepping out of the shadows of slavery, they brought to Howard University the Freedmen's mystic faith in, and yearning for, education.
They built far better than they knew.
