Maybe My Question is redundit, but Does this Mean that ZYX or ABA Sorority is so Much Better than DEB GLO?
If this is the Case then this is one of the Most inane things I have ever Heard!
So One is Not as Good as another?
So, what do The Snobettes use to wipe their Noses?
It seems the problem is that Most have no damn clue about GLOs but only what they have been told!
If they are that small, then who would really want them to be members?

just as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, the perception of a glo, or a chapter of that glo is in the eye of the beholder. whether recruitment is held prior to the beginning of school or it is delayed until the middle of the first semester or the 2nd semester, there will be those who believe that they know the score, and that "abc"or "def" or "ghi" is the only one for them. they listen to gossip from older friends they may know on that campus, listen to the fraternity guys who are more than willing to share their opinion or come in with a preconceived idea from looking at chapter or national websites, instead of keeping an open mind and giving every group a chance and trying to see where they might fit in with each sorority. they need to meet these groups in person and then form their opinions.
i have known several women who were bound and determined to join "abc" and only "abc". they were dropped by their favorite house and dropped out of recruitment, even though that was the only house that had dropped them, and there were plenty to choose from. they all ended up joining different houses in the spring(none joined their original top choice) and every one of the women ended up holding an office in her sorority and being a real leader on campus. at the end of their four years of college, each one said that they felt that they would have had a totally different college experience had they gotten their "dream" house. they felt that they had a better experience than they would have had things gone they way they had wished, that first semester in college.
it was my understanding that even a chapter at total or above total was allowed to take a transfer wishing to affiliate. did i misinterpret the green book on this?

So if it's true that even a chapter at or above total can accept a transfer who wants to affiliate, how can anyone use the excuse that "Oh, we were at total" for not allowing a member to affiliate? I've seen that given as a reason lots of times when people ask questions about affiliating with other chapters, but if it's allowed then it seems to me that that excuse wouldn't fly.

I may be showing my age, but I know this wasn't true when I was in school. Either that, or our own Panhellenic didn't allow it. We had two transfers and were at quota/total, so we were not permitted to let them affiliate. They were at our suite all the time, but couldn't affiliate until we had a few sisters study abroad.

I just checked my Green Book, page 87 in teh chapter regarding recruitment mechanics:
Transfer Members:
RESOLVED, that is a chapter is at total and wishes to affiliate a transfer member, it may do so evne though the addition of that member will put it over Total.
and I know that on several campuses, chapters do this but it's not really 'legal':
Alumnae Status:
RESOLVED, that vacancies in chapter Total are not created by the granting of alumnae status to undergraduate members except when a member group is recolonizing.
(Note: if the undergrad is leaving campus (due to marriage or transfer to a campus where this isn't a chapter into which they can affiliate), this does not apply as far as I know).
