The last time I went to Vegas was 11 years ago. Now that I'm over 21 *hem hem* I'll finally get to enjoy it for what it's worth instead of being a surly teenager pissed b/c I can't do anything fun.

When the hotel (Wynn) first opened, it did not receive raving reviews and was called overrated. Just to let you know. I personally have not been there, even though I live here because I have never been a fan of Steve Wynn and really have no interest in seeing the place. You are right we do have some excellent shopping.

We checked out the Wynn when we were there in August. Mr. 1228 wasn't too impressed with it. I thought it was okay. I would stay there if I got one hell of a deal. The kid liked the Maserati dealer (he is 15 and a car fanatic)

On the other hand, I love the Venentian...gywn ya will love it

I gotta agree with sueali... Wynn's hotels lately exude an in-your-face opulence... if you ain't got the $ and the class to play, you're not welcome there. Locals not welcome, unless you pack a wad of cash. I do miss the DI (Desert Inn, where the Wynn stands now), though...

At least my brother finally got the 'power of the pen' - he got promoted to full-time floorman at the Palace Station. He's looking to transfer to Red Rock when it opens. (Fifteen years in the same joint... it's time to move! )

So I guess back to the Bellagio? It was pretty nice, but I'd like to see some other hotels... any suggestions?

How's this for a deal? Twelve hours from now my flight will be half over as I fly to Vegas.

Where am I staying? WYNN

How much am I paying for my room? NOTHING

I signed up for their Red card (slot club) when I was there last month. Played less than $20 and they gave me two complimentary nights! No sales pitch even!

Triple schweeeeet! It's usually also the time when the convention season starts to taper off (ever since COMDEX kicked the bucket) before the holiday season.

But then, never turn down an offer for a free room!

I knew you'd understand. I agree with you whole heartedly I miss the DI. That's awesome for your brother. My step-dad worked for the stations for years. He is now a pit boss at the excalibur.

What do you think of the New Red rock station. I'm still not sure how it is going to affect red rock in general. P.S I'm actually getting married out at red rock (well spring mountain ranch) on the 29th of this month.

Dunno yet... my brother's put in for a transfer there; at least he goes there with his seniority intact, since they're part of the Station Casinos family. I'll prolly drive out that neck o' the woods when I go there Vet's Day weekend.

I wouldn't be surprised if my brother knows your stepdad or worked with him...

Just got back at the end of September.

A few notables.

I do not like staying on the Las Vegas Hilton/Sahara/Stratosphere end of the strip.

There is more action (ie. more hotels) between the MGM/NY NY side.

Loved the Mirage buffet...try to go during late breakfast/early lunch (11:00 a.m.) to catch the changeover food (cooked to order pasta bar.....YUMMMY )

Went to OPM at Ceasar's Forum Shops. The club plays hip hop and remixes. I enjoyed it. Ate at the Voodoo Cafe and Lounge at the Rio. Its on the 51st Floor. The food was pricey, but the decor was cool, plus there is a view of LV and an outdoor patio. 5th

I think they are opening a Planet Hollywood Hotel near the strip in 2006, plus Mariott and Hilton are building hi-rise time shares within walking distance from the strip.

All in all, Vegas is a perennial (sp?) favorite of mine. I could go every 6 months.

Dayam! I don't even want to admit how much my room rate was there over Labor Day weekend. It was cool and retro, with nifty touches like flat screen t.v's in the bathrooms. I was impressed, but not as awed as I'd expected to be. The Venetian is still my favorite. (Better spa and fitness center, nicer pool layout, great shopping, and big, big rooms.)

The breakfast buffet at Wynn was absolutely amazing, though!

Over the summer we went to Vegas and stayed at the Wynn and THEHotel at Mandalay Bay. I liked the Wynn, got excellent service, enjoyed the food and bars and the basic room is very spacious for a hotel room. But we LOVED THEHotel. It is the all suite side of the Mandalay Bay, is more low key because the casino is not in that building and was perfect for our couples trip to hangout have fun and relax some. It is at the end of the strip but that did not bother us at all. I did shop around and got good prices at both.
