Honest question

In the recruitment stories forum, girls list houses that are their top choices all the time (just under nicknames) and everyone is encouraged and excited by their stories.

It seems completely opposite on this board; the second a GLO (or even a school!) is mentioned it seems that a lot of people get angry & defensive... borderline threatened by it. & I do understand that everyone's reaction is dependent on the context it is brought up in, but even when it seems innocent or naive on a girl's part.. people sound genuinely angry, upset, you-name-it.

I am not trying to say this is good or bad, I'm just honestly confused about this. (?) I know i haven't been around very long, but the reactions feel so different to some of the exact same information (?)

Not naming names is for the PNM's benefit, not ours. There have been instances where a girl named names and sorority members from their school happened to read their comments about their chapter. This resulted in the chapters dropping them. Or sometimes a chapter can find out that they weren't a PNM's first choice and give her a hard time.

But can't the same thing happen in recruitment stories? This is what I don't understand.

People think it won't happen, but it HAS happened, it each time, it was unfortunate.

I get excited each time rush season starts (as many others do also), but in the past 5 rushes I've seen here already I've noticed that more and more GC PNMs go bidless for whatever reason.

I'm one of those that actually like naming the names (see curlygirly0921 at UF from a few years ago) but I realize that not all PNMs are good honest, but tactful and classy writers like she is, so as far as naming names goes -- I guess it would depend on what kind of person she already is.

I know I took a lot of grief one time because AFTER I WAS ALREADY INITATED I answered the "If you weren't an XYZ, what would you be?" and "Who's flower/mascot/colors/etc...do you like besides your own..." and obviously my sisters weren't paying attention to the title of the thread, because I heard it for saying something about Tri-Sigma. I actually had a sister come up to me and say "Well, if you want to be a tri-sigma, go be one..." So stuff you say on GC DOES effect your Greek life (and we're not even going INTO the disney thread, for those of you who were here for THAT drama)

Yeah I see how things like that can happen. I think PNMs sometimes view "getting accepted" by a sorority as such a chance happening that they don't realize how strongly the active & alumni members feel about it.
