Absolutely. Plus when there were kegs at parties...well let's face it, even if you hated beer, you learned to drink it, just because it was cheap. After you got used to it you got to like it, and it was cheap. But now kegs have been banned many places and people bring their own stuff, so that they never really get into beer. So they keep drinking hard liquor.
It's also easier to hide a flask or something like that than a beer with a head on it.
