are you a Jessica then? I've heard that happens a lot.

I introduce myself as Jennifer, but prefer Jen. I always wanted to be a Genevieve. Only my grandparents call me Jenny. I knew one woman who wanted to call me fur-fur but I refused.(she was a friend of my mom's).
Sometimes I think I should hyphen with my middle name and become Jenny-Lynn

Oh, and I had "Gin" happen to me just once.

Jen-i (pronounced Jen-eye.)

I stick to Jen but people call me all sorts of crap.
Not so much on topic, but... This reminded me of how many different spellings there are for the same name. My name is Carrie and is misspelled nearly every time! The ways I can remember are:

Kari
Keri
Kerry
Karey
Carrey
Carey
Karrie
Kerrie
Cari
Cary

...and probably at least a few more I can't remember!
It used to drive me nuts, but now I'm used to it. When someone asks me my name and has to write it down for something, I've gotten used to saying "Carrie, C-A-R-R-I-E" ...that coupled with having a semi-weird last name, which I also have to spell everytime, makes it kinda funny!

My daughter's name is Jennifer, she was born in 1981 and guess what the # l girls name was that year? You got it "Jennifer"!!!
So when she started preschool we started calling her Jenna.
She switched back to Jennifer in middle school and high school, but in college became Jenna again and still uses Jenna.

Oh my goodness! I can't believe I forgot that one! My ex-boyfriend's dad as well as my favorite professor up here both called/call me Jenna.

Every time I hear it, I think of Jenna Jameson. I can't get the image out of my head.

My boss in my Americorps program was a Jennifer. She would always introduce herself as Jennifer and her voice mail said Jennifer--but with people she knew she was always Jen. 1 N. She always wanted to be Jenna--but so many people were used to calling her Jen that she couldn't get it to stick.
She moved to Atlanta last year to start a new job...and there were already 2 Jennifers. 1 Jennifer and 1 Jenn (2 Ns). She decided now was the time to use Jenna--so everyone in Atlanta calls her Jenna...but everyone who's known her before calls her Jen. We make fun of her for it ("Who's Jenna? I don't know a Jenna!") Drives her nuts...

Growing up, I always had a couple Jennifers in my class. Both were called "Jennifer", but we had to add the first initial of their last names Jennifer M and Jennifer H). UKDaisy, about why people are hearing "Gin" when you say "Jen" - the only thing I can think of is that you might have an accent. I see you are from/in Kentucky. I noticed that people from your region have a strong slant on words like kin/been/pen etc. I can definitely imagine hearing someone from Kentucky saying "Jen" and having it sound exactly like "Gin".

As for me, I often have people confuse my name for Helen or Ellen.

Wink

Actually, if one thinks about it, for example Thomas. 2 sylabols.

Tom is so much easier to say, Jen-if-er. wow way to much breath and time!

Use single sybilabal Names, uses less oxygen, time, and energy!

Jane, Dan, Tom, Curt or what ever!

Dont use My Air and Time! I dont have that much left!

and the whole accent thing - im from new york, and when i moved to vegas.. id say something and people look at me like i have 7 heads just because it comes out differently than how they say it. everyone loves to have me say "BOX" because it comes out "BAAAAX" to them... lol .. how random am i?? sorry for just rolling along here..
