Education. The American Medical Association has stated "Media violence is America's number one health care emergency." The AMA, the APA, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the National Institute of Mental Health, the Attorney General, the Surgeon General, and the United Nations (in a major UNESCO study) have all linked violent visual media with violent behavior. In the United States, per capita aggravated assault has gone up almost sevenfold since 1957. (You must use assault to gauge the problem since medical technology saves ever more lives every year.) In Canada the assault rate has gone up fivefold since 1964. In the 15 years between 1977 and 1993, the per capita "serious assault" rate went up approximately fivefold in Norway and Greece, fourfold in Australia and New Zealand, tripled in Sweden, and doubled in seven other European nations including England. Media violence is the only common factor in all these nations and every major national and international medical and scientific body that has studied this issue has identified the effect of media violence on kids as a key factor in this virus of violence. Parents must be educated about the risks posed to their children by media violence. Psychologically speaking, violence is the single most toxic substance any person can take in, and parents must be educated about the desperate need to protect their kids from this toxic substance.
High-larious - misusing the context of 'media'!

Again, until you can show me some empirical data to support any sort of 'conditioning' theory; until you can draw direct conclusions between violent video games and violent behavior; until you can discount the influences of things like TV news, 'copycat' pscyhological behavior, or other generalized societal/social influences; and until you can prove that the connections he's drawing aren't causation/correlation fallacies, this guy's diatribes are a joke.

As you read this mishmash of garbage, you're simply crushed over the face with logical fallacies, whether they be correlation fallacies, false analogies, or irrational leaps from unlike elements to known examples. "Specious" doesn't even begin to describe it.

Funny how no one thinks about how getting your panties in a bunch will backfire....

I remember Married With Children was bottoming out until Terri Ricolta forgot to take her midol and watched the show. Her efforts to have it cancelled not only backfired....ratings soared and it became the longest running sitcom in Fox history!

I believe this is happening right now if I'm not mistaken. I saw something on the news about a teenager using this game as part of the defense. That's what sparked this thread - but I couldn't find anything on the kid so I just went generic.

Wow, this is really fucking fantastic isnt it?

Freedom of Speach! Da some cranial rectosis postings on this new fun game site!

Reminds me of pimply faced morons who profess so much, but guess what Who do you call if there is a God Damn problem, it sure as hell isnt Super Man or Bat Man!

Why dont some of you flaming Liberals get off of Your Collective Butts, go to the Local police Department and ask if you can go for a ride along!

Oh of course you wont you chicken shits, no balls.

I rode alone, no bullet proof vest and no walkie talkie. Just let the dispatcher know where you were at and hoped like hell there was no problems.

D A Yep it will be interesting when some one kills a Officer and say oh, the game made me do it!

There were two Officers run down and killed, one ass whole is up for parole for the 3 rd time. Killing an Officer=15 to life.

Last time, We got 6000 sigs to keep his ass in Prison.

I knew these Officers and they were good people and had Familys. Now these Familys dont have Husbands and Fathers.

So, the next time you might have a friggen problem dial I need a Super Comic Book Hero and see what happens!

Oh and My Best Friend who is a 30 Year Vetern Couldnt agree More!

Baby give me a hug! Mama loves you!

I will do a ride along and pick you up. We'll go eat some food and bust some knees!

Tom you and me baby! We'll beat the townies real good.

I decided I'd come up with a name for our team. We will be the goon squad. Nobody will mess with any Five O's named the Goon Squad.

Are you down?

I'll agree with the others who say it's not in good taste, but it's free speech. And it would be VERY hard pressed to fit it in one of the exceptions to free speech.

As for some kid blaming it on the game... ummmm, yeah, just yet ANOTHER example of people refusing to take responsibility for their own actions. No one blames the parents for not raising the kid with morals and common sense. Of course not. It's much easier to support the crappy parents' blaming the game. The lawyer can raise the issue of the game to take the focus off the fact that the kid did something wrong and blame it all on this game. And more than enough people out there are stupid enough to fall for it

I don't see anything fundamentally different between this game and other games that kill people.

Do the lives of police officers have more intrinsic value than non-police officers? What a disturbing implication!

They are far from sacred and hallowed. Keep that in mind.

Tom, you're out of control here. Just because you used to be a cop, there's no reason to jump on the soap box and piss on things that are guarantees in our nation.

If you'd like martial law or hot hot police-state action, move to Taiwan, Earp.

I know there was an epsiode of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit where this kid used a violent video game as his defence.
