A new, soon-to-be released video game is drawing fire from critics who believe it hits a new low.

The game is called "25 To Life." Players earn points by pretending to kill cops and use civilians as human shields. Players can also play the part of the police officers.

What's your take on things like this?

The critics are right. This is really wrong.

Remember when that game was called Manhunt?

Remember how it was called Grand Theft Auto beforehand?

You gotta be shitting me... Americans have always had a streak of rebelliousness and flouting of authority, but a game glorifying killing and maiming cops?

Even under the Constitution, Free Speech only goes so far. It is not an unlimited right. With it comes certain responsibilities.

The first time a real police officer is shot and someone uses being conditioned by the game, it will be interesting to see if the courts agree with the free speech theory.

It's not a theory, it's an undeniable right.

You're chucking the topic here - you should run down the exact situations in which free speech is limited. Then you'll see how little that applies to this topic.

Well, since there's never been any conclusive proof to suggest that 'conditioning' via videogame, television, reading books, seeing network news, driving through a rough part of town, or listening to your grandfather spout quasi-racist innuendo or any similar stimulus leads to violent behavior or contributes to some sort of bizarre psychological 'activation' of violent outbursts, you'll be hard-pressed to win any sympathy from me here.

The courts will do what they've done so far with similarly uninformed attempts at defense: throw them out.

Hey here's a novel idea. How about more of an effort to prevent guns from ending in the wrong hands? How about more of an effort to teach kids morals instead of requiring it through a law?

That takes real effort. Its easier to just pass a law and pretend that a problem has been dealt with.

Retired Marine Colonel Dave Grossman is an OUTSPOKEN critic of violent video games, and has been a leading voice at Congress Hearings and for various watchdog groups.

He alleges that as per military training, soldiers play Doom and other one person shooters to "condition" them for killing. He believes, in his self-named "Killology" that because the military uses these games to teach their personnel to kill, that the same effect of conditioning kids would happen too.

I think the guy's wrong because the number of players to crimes makes it ridiculous.... but I just wanted your feedback.
