Hazing is inappropriate, and should be punished accordingly. While I realize this is the school's rule, I can swear that in the NPC Manual of Information (wish I still had mine!!) it says reduction in quota or forbiding a sorority to take a pledge class is not an appropriate form of punishment. I happen to agree with the NPC on this. I'm really not sure how preventing a group from getting new members is going to stop them from hazing another group.

Chi Omega is a very large and well respected sorority at Tufts, from what I understand. I think that they will probably be able to pick themselves up after this, although I agree that the punishment may not fit the crime here. However, I hope that the smaller chapter on campus can use this to their advantage. Maybe they can pick up their numbers this coming year and get to a more competitive size. I wonder if they'll still have formal recruitment with only two chapters?

Dolphin,

Here on our local campus, not taking a pledge class or loss of charter/house is an on-the-books punishment for things such as rush alcohol infractions, hazing infractions, etc. But! It must be a drastic situation in order for that to happen.
