^^^ Thanks Munch!

I decided to treat myself to a vacation immediately following a fraternity convention we're having there. I basically want to stay in the French Quarter and be extra touristy lol

It will be in the oppressive heat of July, but I can deal with it for the experience!

It's going to be awesome. I'm a little buzzed right now from a lot of wine, and all I can say is "awesome!" but believe me, it's going to be so much fun. Any vice you want to satisfy is right there. You want to gamble? Go for it! Strippers of all colors, size, ages, and genders? Holla! Slamming seafood on the super cheap? Gotcha! Want to drink cheap drinks that will get you drunk? $8 for a hurricane at Pat O'Briens that's twice the size as any bar in DC!

The city was kind of a cougar den, which I was not expecting AT ALL.

I haven't heard of it. But, if you message me on FB, I'll ask my NOLA natives. (The message will remind me to ask...)

I'll throw another recommendation in there if you are looking to compare rates - The Maison Dupuy on Toulouse. Just a couple of blocks from Bourbon. Lovely rooms - some with balconies. We never got in the car and were able to walk everywhere in the Quarter. Good food too. New Orleans is so wonderful. Nothing like fresh, greasy beignets to cure the hangover. Mmmmm.

Yeah, New Orleans is pretty awesome. I've only been once during Mardi Gras (KSigRC was down there as well), but we had a great time. One of our college buddies is from New Orleans, and he definitely showed us a good time.

Sen, have a great time down there.

OMG it's next month and I am crazy excited! phrozen1ne is going, too.

I pretty much have my itinerary planned out, but I'd still love to hear any recommendations from you guys, particularly things in the French Quarter.

I loved NOLA and want to go back! I spent 8 weeks there during the summer of 2007 as an AmeriCorps VISTA. I didn't stay in a hotel there, I lived in a dorm at the University of New Orleans, so I wish I could give you a recommendation on a hotel, but I can't.

You MUST go to Cafe Du Monde for Beignets (French donuts). There's also a really good seafood restaurant on Bourbon St. called The Bourbon House. The Garden District is beautiful, and its really nice to walk up Magazine St. looking in all the shops and little restaurants down there too.

My niece married a guy from NO last weekend. The rehearsal dinner had a NO theme with hurricane drinks! One of the favors was a large plastic wine glass with a fluer-de-lis on it. Cool!

Don't really care of red beans and rice, shrimp etouffe, etc. but I LOVE beignets!
There is a place in Atlanta called Huey's that has the beignets...hmmm wonder if hubby would like to brunch there?? There used to be a Cafe du Monde at Underground Atlanta but I doubt it's there anymore. I never go to UA.

Thanks for those suggestions on places to stay. Maybe we'll go soon.

Best wishes on your marriage. New Orleans can be a great place to honeymoon, but use caution. The French Quarter is a unique and wonderful place but can be very dangerous, particularly at night. Do not walk alone down a side street back to your hotel or to a parking garage. I have heard too many horror stories. Stay on well lit streets with crowds and watch your purse and wallets.

Definitely go to Cafe Du Monde for breakfast...there is nothing better than those powdered sugar covered hot beignets and cafe au lait in the morning. Try the muffalettas for lunch at Central Grocery on Decatur St., the home of the original muffaletta (half is enough for two people). You can get it to go and walk over to the Mississippi River and listen to live jazz while you eat. There are any number of wonderful restaurants in the Quarter. There are great museums and shopping is terrific. The Monteleone is lovely as is the Fairmont and both are close to attractions. The Garden District has gorgeous homes and is worth a trip.

Have a great and a safe trip.
