I know of the schools you mentioned in texas. I cant attest to, and wouldnt anyway of what I know about specific greeks in these groups.
Trinity is VERY laid back. I would imagine the greeks there are as well. As was stated, there are no inter/national groups at Trinity.
SMU is a VERY traditional university. The greek system there seems to be very traditional as well.
I am sure there are individuals at these univerisities that go against the grain, but this is just a VERY general overview based on what I have seen.

I can't speak from the schools you mentioned, but I know at S. Carolina there's a mix in EVERY sorority. There are girls that are strict Christian, no drinking, virgins, and there are the girls that are-well, the opposite. I was always middle-of-the-road... I'd have the girls giving me a hard time for not wanting to go out on a Monday, then I'd have the girls wanting me to go to their Bible Study. I would assume that MANY sororities on MANY campuses are like this.

I am familiar with each school you mentioned with the exception of Trinity. I think you have a great list here! All have good academic reputations as well as strong Greek systems. Good luck with your search.

I didn't join a sorority til my soph. year. I had the same thoughts about sororities as you did. But most are not true. Before thinking of steroetypes go and check out the girls and houses (if they have any).
If you are interested in joining a sorority go through recruitment and check out all the house. You will know after you visit all of them if you would like to be in any of the sororities. There is no harm in going to check out the house and change your mind about the steroetypes.

I am very familiar with all those schools you listed. Honestly, you have to try out Greek Life for yourself and form your own opinions. All the schools you listed have excellent Greek Chapters. Sororities are not based on partying, and during Recruitment, you will learn about indivdiual chapters and what their ideals are.

liz, sorry if i came across as harsh, but i can't STAND when people only listen to negative stereotypes of sororities. everyone is different, as is every sorority. you can get a relatively good feel for a sorority by getting to know the members. if they don't seem like you, you probably wouldn't want to be in their sorority. however, be careful about judging a chapter based on only a handful of members. and don't judge people based on looks. no one can simply look like a slutty sorority member without doing certain actions (except of course astute GC members can call people they don't know a slut. only he would know by sight )
take some time, get to know people. and DON'T rely on other's opinions! they are not yours so don't use them.
