Though I hadn't been able to watch every episode, the show , my mother and I caught the last episode in full. I'd have to agree that while Ms. Tammy or TTT was an overbearing dragon witch, that husband and kids didn't seem like they were worth a pot to piss in! What kind of statement are you making, as an adult, to chime in with the kids in making fun of a guest in your home? When the white woman was reading that story (which she had to know was kinds weird to this bunch), they were burping and carrying on, and Fat Daddy was carrying on with the kids. I felt like, right or wrong, they shouldn't have "showed their natural black behinds" in that fashion. And not even that the fact that they were black made a difference; it justs shows you the lack of respect that they were brought up with. In our household, my parents didn't give a damn if you didn't like it, you just didn't "tow your a$$" with adults/guests.

Also, it was intriguing to see how the two women walked away; the black woman, experiencing a better life and traditions she could pass on to her children, not to mention a friend for a lifetime (the other Nakumara's weren't worth k.i.t.w.) and the white woman, well, she just seemed as if she were ready to return to her cozy little niche and be as far away from that side of reality as possible (and did you hear that bogus reference to paying taxes for Nana?--- ). The money allocation is altogether a different story - that so much was set aside for bill paying is understandable (how much s$^& did/will he have to pay off?), but that little bit of money towards a new home is questionable (maybe an addition so they wouldn't be so cramped). Nana deserved every bit of that money, so that wasn't a surprise...but while this show was funny, it was a little disheartening.

It looks like the next episode is going to be pretty good.

I think a college fund like a 529 would have been great too. Regarding the home purchase, Tammy didn't say HOW much of a home they had to purchase. I am assuming they are paying something for the house they live in now, even if they are just renting. Their job would be to look for something that fits in their budget. A 22K or 20K downpayment would help them get a little more than they could otherwise afford.

I have to agree with you on this one. My mother would've slapped the taste out of my mouth if I showed any type of disrespect to a guest. Their actions at the dinner table were sooooo uncalled for.

the thing that p#@** me off the most about this show was the fact that Dr. Nakamura allowed his mother to be the unpaid maid while Trailer Tammy (who despite marrying well, would NEVER be welcomed by Dallas society) runs the show. she even has Nana getting the coffee ready for the next day. for that man to have his mother out there like the Japanese Beulah (50s TV show), was unbelievable. the Nakamura couple bothered me to the nth degree but seemed made for each other, he got his blonde, she got her money, but Nana got the shaft
i'll give Trailer Tammy (that sounds like some Garbage Pail Barbie) credit, she did hook the Biggins up. i hope they spend the money wisely and

FOR REAL!!! There were hardly any Chinese people there.

Though I felt sorry for Nana, I get the impression that she likes moving about. I could be wrong. You know how some older people are. They want to do it all. For the party, when Mela told her to sit down, I don't know if she was stunned to not be doing anything or if she was shocked because NEVER in a million years would Tammy NOT make her work.

And I must add that though the kids and father were rude during the dinner story, she should have picked a better time or not done it at all. For one, I have great table manners and would NEVER act like them, but I don't want anyone reading any stories to me while I eat. I woldn't concentrate on that foolishness. I'm HUNGRY! Second, I got the e-mail a while ago and it is touching, but she made it sound disgusting. All those dramatic breakdowns and fanning the tears back took away from the story. She was getting on MY nerves, so I know how they felt.

It's funny, in the 70's a pair of New York Yankees traded wives...I know one was Fritz Peterson, but I can't remember the other (both were starting pitchers). One couple stayed together, while the other divorced soon afterward. It made for a good story back then.

Never saw the show, but the premise reminds me of the situation with the Yankees.

It was Fritz Peterson and Mike Kekich. I vaguely remember that, that was during a time when the Yankees weren't very good, so this was pre-Billy Martin and Reg-gie Jackson, etc.

I don't recall which couple stayed together, and which one divorced.

Elders are a vital and important part of the household, and this is often displayed through their household responsibilities--cooking, cleaning, taking care of the kids, etc. The elders are still "usefull," still "needed," and make valuable contributions to the household.

Very different from our relationships with our grandparents/other elders.

My grandmother actually enjoys "catering" to us when we come home!

I don't want her to work like a "Hebrew Slave" (ala TonyB) but when I go visit her in NC, she definitely has the table spread! She actually calls us before we come home to see what we want to eat so she can have stuff cooked! Greens, bbq chicken & ribs, fried chicken, mac & cheese, chocolate cake, sweet potato pies, etc.

('Scuse me while I clean my keyboard. Mouth started watering. . .)

But many people do sort of "throw away" the elderly. I love being around old folks because there's so much wisdom there.
