Fighting racism... literally

Okay I don't know how it works down in the States, but up here the prosecution is permitted to submit sentencing recomendations... Mr. Williams (a Beta from UofT) or Mr. Keogh (a Zeta Psi from UofT) or Mr. Benson (a Lambda Chi from UofT) have all offered to prosecute the case (as all are members of my Legion branch) and all were involved in the phone calls discussing a possible sentancing recommendation - as was I because of my involvement in the incident and becasue of my position (roughly new member education) at the branch.

The general concensus was that the attempt to educate them (the kids) should be made, because otherwise they will just continue to let their misguided and ignorant hate fester. I'll let everyone know what happened at court sometime Tuesday (August 3rd) when I get back.

As I promised here's what happened at court...

Well turns out the kids have been in trouble with the law before: seems they like defacing public buildings too. They were found guilty pretty fast (30 min), but most of the legal wrangling had to do with sentancing.

The prosecution submitted a sentancing recommendation, that stated 2 hours a week at the Legion helping and learning from the vets for 1 1/2 years plus cleaning and payment for repairs to monuments.

The judge had her own ideas, threaten them with either juvenile detention or joining Cadets until they turned 18... kids took the Cadet option. As they were considered a problem as a group, they were each required to join a different branch (Army, Navy, Airforce)... and of course they must clean-up the memorials they vandalized.

Not what was envisaged, but achieves roughly the ame results....

It really does suck that little creeps like this will likely face nothing more than a slap on the wrist. I LOATHE racism of any form & if it were up to me, I'd toss the little bastards in the chair & gladly pull the switch.

Well having them join seperate Cadet units and branches will limit contact with each other... the discipline might do them some good... and Cadets commit time to the community and charities... their summers are shot, spending time away training... they have to spend time at the Legion with vets now anyways as part of their community service requirement in Cadets... and most importantly they might actually learn something.

While I can identify with your hatred of racism, I cannot even imagine why you would advocate (much less support) capital punishment for these kids.

Ummm...that was a joke. I guess reading it again it doesn't come off that way HOWEVER, I fully believe that the punishment should definitely fit the crime. By limiting their contact with each other, I can only hope that they will be more open-minded & not let their ideology skew everything they hear & that they will learn.

At G A, damn I wished you had been there, the same thing happened to some of the Brothers who I met were eating late in a local Snake and Shake shop. Started catching Hell from some dillwads. Advisor who you all know tried to get His Colony Guys out before the Local COPS got there.

One of the young Brothers had a total melt down as He was so yupset. I talked with him and everything is cool! I was almosst awakened by this problem at 6 in the morning and told the Advisor, no problem, just knock on the door



If I had been there, I am sure we would all have been in Jail!

May be old and slow, but I know the tricks of how to really screw someone up!

Glad to hear that ended the way it did...it could have ended a lot worse.

A lot of people have a hard time believing that some of today's youth are as bad as they are until something like this happens. Like someone else mentioned, their minds have been poisoned!
