I'm big on personal responsibility - if you can't keep your hands off the fries, it's not MacDonald's fault. There are responsible ways to enjoy food like that.
I tend to stay away from that stuff; when I do eat it though, I prefer BK's fries to MacDonalds'.

I agree. There are some cases where it is difficult to control but at the same time, I think back to being 16 and working for MickeyD's. Some parents used to bring their kids in there not once but twice a day. That IMHO is a serious problem and insurance companies shouldn't have to foot the bill. That also ties into there being a licensing law in effect as to who should and shouldn't be able to have kids.

Not that I'm defending smoking or smokers (I find it to be a filthy and stupid habit, but whatever) but the tobacco companies actually did all they could to hide the evidence that proved smoking to be carcinogenic and otherwise harmful to your health. I don't think McDonalds ever went around touting the health benefits of a Big Mac!

You may have rolled your eyes at my previous post in this thread, but that is where we are headed. People have shunned all personal responsibility, and if that is what they want to do, there will be hell to pay. I am booking a one-way ticket to Costa Rica the second they outlaw my right to eat a York Peppermint Patty...

Slippery Slopes exist in government like nowhere else. Try to think of one government agency that hasn't blown itself out of proportion and snowballed into a monster that it was never originally intended to be?

I ate at McDonald's over two weeks ago. I hadn't eaten a McDonald's meal other than breakfast in over a year. It was good, but I couldn't imagine eating that daily or twice daily. You need to eat fruits and vegetables. I don't consider a slice of onion, a pickle, and ketchup vegetables.
I do like their McFlurrys with M&M's. Yummy!
I think that morbid obesity is a disability. Or maybe it is the consequences of obesity such as hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease that qualify.

I'm a big McDonald's fan. Tho I try to eat 'healthy' when I'm there, salads, chicken nuggets. Love the breakfasts there sooo much too. I eat there at least once a week maybe twice. BUT I know it's bad for me and make up for it the rest of the week by eating better and working out. I would in no way blame my health issues on a fast food restaurant that I chose to eat at. People just don't like facing up to their own free-will choices sometimes.
Child obesity in my school is such a problem. It's sad. And those kids are in McDonald's getting a snack after school...2 cheesburgers and fries meal large sized. : :

Those kids need to sue their parents, not McDonalds.

I had some McDonalds fries for lunch. They didn't have as much salt as usual.
They'll be hearing from my lawyer.
Geez.

2 cheeseburgers and fries are not an after school snack. My snacks were a few cookies and milk or fruit. I also played sports and took dance lessons after school so I wasn't sitting around being a couch potato.

off topic for a minute but wouldn't a pickle technically be a fruit? so would ketchup since it comes from a tomato. they hold seeds. so you really are getting your fruits and vegetables.

Exactly, this is another issue altogether. Sure, some of this food isn't good everyday, but it can be enjoyed from time to time. Parents need to control their children's consumption of these types of foods.

It's not even the fast food. Kids in my school go to the corner store and get a bag of chips or this crazy sugary 'juice' if they aren't going to McDs. Healthy snacks? I know Pre-K kids who already say "I don't eat fruit". Parents...I just don't know what's going on with them and teaching about healthy food choices.

afterschool sports or music or whatever is exactly what these kids need. Sigh.

I have noticed that a lot of fast food places are making "healthy alternatives" for the kids' meals. Wendy's is now offering orange slices and milk as opposed to french fries and soda. McDonald's is "trying" with the apples and caramel dip (which still probably has a ton of sugar).

Yeah, I hear that. My sister has always taken care to make sure my niece and nephew eat 5 veggies a day, fruit instead of candy, etc. Whenever I'm on the subway, I see kids about the same age, who are obese. On another note, they can't speak that well--which is another thread altogether.
Man, my kids are gonna ROCK. Health food and public TV.
