I have an Alpha Phi big sis. Its fun, they give us stuff to wear on campus (I had to wear a sash, it was hella funny) but its not like a hazing type of thing. Im sure if its campus-wide but every new guy in SigEp at Sac gets a Big sis as well as a big bro..

Tau Beta Sigma and Kappa Kappa Psi have a joint ritual where we get littles from the opposite organization. Since we're a sister-brother joint bonded organization, though, it's to be expected.
By the size of the different MC classes, I ended up with one little sister in TBS and six little brothers in KKY.
We do NOT, however, wear anything of the opposite organization. Only our own. The littles ceremony is simply something to bond the two chapters together in our common interest of music.

On my campus 3 out of the 4 fraternities have lil sis programs, only 1 allows their lil sis's to wear their letters. (I just don't believe in that...unless you're pinned...just my opinion)
If you're a single girl when you become a lil sis you're more of a "rush tool", if you're hot, rushees will naturally go towards the fraternity w/the hottest girls that hang around. (You know it's true! )
Of the sororities, 3 of the 5 have lil bro programs, mine included. I have a lil bro named Matt who is a TKE from Shawnee Sate, he's my boy and I love to spoil him! I also have a big bro in a fraternity, it's not that serious though, at least for them. When we have lil bro's go through they wear a "Lambda loincloth", hehehe, gotta love it
Some orgs here take it pretty seriously and have an actual pledging process they have to go through. Us, well, it last about a couple days and is more fun than anything.

Wow, I'll bet a lot of the national officers of NPC sororities are just kicking themselves right now because their groups went on record as disapproving little brother and little sister organizations! Luckily some of them are having conventions this summer; maybe some delegates can bring this issue up.
One question, though: what if a "single girl" is not "hot"? You know, kind of normal, pleasant, intelligent, that sort of junk. Is there any way she can be a "rush tool" too, or would she be expected to hang out with her sorority sisters or other friends and stay completely out of the picture during fraternity rush?

They don't have NPC groups on the campus in question.

My big bro is a TKE. We're a funny combo though.....he's younger than me and pledged a year after I did but we like it! I also dated his older brother...

It's ironic that there's 2 LBSU greeks here that frown upon it...
There are more than 1 AOPI big sis's in TKE here... One of them you might know...
But those are usually the few guys who talk to AOPi's...
I don't even think we have any Sigma Kappas in our big/little programs... We don't really hang out with Sigma Kappas...
And I don't mean to sound condescending either, but I can almost guarantee that you would appreciate it more if you had a big bro from a fraternity that you really liked hanging out with...
If you don't have one, then of course, it gets annoying...
I do know that the other "big" sororities on our campus participate very much in these programs... Including my Big Sis's... Delta Gamm of course...
I just got my little bro (who was a pledge this last spring) a GPhiB big sis, and they take it VERY SERIOUSLY...
But yeah, i'm totally aware that on a national level, it's not looked highly upon... But it does happen, and people do benefit from it...
BUT NO, I DO NOT WEAR Delta Gamma LETTERS! That would make me look gay... The relationship and what we share is enough for me!
GO BEACH!!!

Perhaps you're right. It is a shame though that my sorority doesn't really hang out that often with you guys. It's no ones fault really but it really does suck to realize that I'm talking to someone online that is in the same Greek system I'm in yet I don't really know anyone from your organization.
Also, perhaps you're right. I don't have any big bros nor am I anyones lil sis from a frat so perhaps you have to be on the other side of the coin to see what it's all about.
In order to amend this, I'm on AOL a lot (wedgiemunster) and if you have an AIM name, share it with me so perhaps we can actually talk & I can finally get to know some TKE's from Long Beach. Just the other day I was at the Dodger game wearing my letters & ended up meeting some really nice Sigma Pi's from LB there. I never knew any of them but now I know at least 3. Hopefully, we'll get to actually start to get together more often instead of sticking to our "regular" partners. TKE's & DG's. SK's & Theta Chi's.
Look me up so I can make a new TKE friend! Remember, I'm wedgiemunster.

I know schools in Idaho and Washington do this...but at the University of Utah we only have lil sis's with in our own sorority. And how do you get that going on campus? b.c. i think it's a great way to meet more people other than your usual hangouts.

Hi Colleen,
Technically Pi Phi is not supposed to do Big Brother/Little Brother programs with members of men's organizations. Pretty much for the reasons AGDee said. There's a Policy and Position Statement that explains more about it if you're curious.

Yeah, I also have a twin, and I have 3 little brothers. Two of which were twins (fall) and the other one I just got last semester.

I have an odd family tree.. it's not really a tree.. more like a Greek Bush
I have my DG big sis Trisha..
I have a Theta Chi big bro Javier who is my big sis's lil bro.. thus my twin and big bro (haha yes confusing)
I have Theta Chi twins: Evan (big sis' lil), Prat (big bro's lil)
I have a big bro Josh in Sigma Nu
I have a grandbig Greg in FIJI (big sis' big bro)
I have a grandbig Anthony in BETA (big sis' big bro)
I have a twin Sher in BETA (big sis's lil)
I have a "Panhellenic Big Sis".. Gina from Delta Zeta who is the reason I rushed.
