just now saw this thread....oops about my meat thread in chit chat.....

a girl i went to college with was a vegan.....she dropped, like, 25 lbs just over the summer b/c of it. all the lil fad-diet girls wanted to know how she did it, and she had to make it more than abundantly clear it was a lifestyle, NOT a diet.

i respect ppl who are vegans and who would save dogs over a baby ( ) as long as they respect that i would save a baby over a dog....but i would try my darndest to save both.

Well, here's some info for you, PETA didhave an exhibit showing a comparison of animals in cages and Jews from the Holocaust in Huntington W.V a year or two ago. It ticked plenty of people off. I believe they were also handing out graphic pamplets to kids also.

I don't have a problem with anyone adopting a vegetarian or Vegan lifestyle, but shoving their views down people's throats is no way to win converts.

They must be getting some of their strategy from Mein Kampf - the PETA-freaks conveniently ignore the fact that Adolf Hitler was a vegetarian. (People, don't get any ideas... going 'vegetable-itarian' won't turn you into a stark-raving Nazi! )

I was a vegan for a good portion of my life...but not for any political or religious reason...

Now, I just don't eat that much meat, and it is usually fish or chicken. I am just not a big meat fan for taste reasons.

Not all vegans/vegetarians, etc. do so because of political or religious beliefs..but some do.

Mr. Silver is a red meat and potato person. We still make our food choices work for us.

Sorry, but I do not respect someone at all if they would save a dog over a baby. In my opinion, that would be like myself respecting Charles Manson.
And I'm not being closed-minded. I do respect other people's beliefs, but when it comes to the sanctity of human life, that's another question. If someone is so screwed up that they would actually save a dog over a human, then they've got real issues, and I don't respect them at all.

I've got friends that are vegetarians and friends with all sorts of different beliefs than me, and I respect them and their right to believe those things-- but when it comes to human life, that's where I draw the line.

I have been a vegetarian for 8 years... A strict one meaning I still eat some milk and egg products.

It was a lifestyle choice for me. I would never recommend eating like I do to anyone unwillingly. I really do not have a reason why I chose it. I just did it. Why? Because in America, we have choices. I choose not to eat meat because I do not want to eat meat. Many a soldier has died in plenty of wars for me to make that choice...

I also do several scientific experiments on laboratory rodents, too. I do not wince at the site of blood. I also work with M.D. and surgeons that have done work on human patients. My research deals with finding treatments for heart disease. Artichoke hearts do not beat like mouse hearts... So the asswipe PETA people best not get sick in anybody's hospital and ask for any antibiotics or drugs...

Oh and my hubby is a omniverous veterinarian... The animal right's terrorists are likely to blow up our house because of our chosen professions... I was given an email about how to handle these lunatics--nowhere in the article did it say:

"My Glock Nine hollow points can go 0.8 miles per second, how fast can YOU run?"

OR

"No trespassing, it is a violation...Because Trespassers will be Violated..."

OR

Forget the dog, beware of the owner...

OR

Gun control is using two hands rather than one...

i respect other ppl's opinions, but you are right....the line has to be drawn somewhere. i take human life very seriously (read some abortion threads, i'm all up in that)....i respect the thoughts and opinions of others, but i don't respect them more than i stand by my own opinions. that last post of mine was moreso meant as a lil light-heartedness....re-reading it i see that i doesn't come across that way. i meant that i will respect them as long as they respect me....and the likeliness of that is minimal. ...haha?..... ANYhoo....

a baby and a dog are both at risk for drowning, if i can come up with a way to save both in .23 seconds, i'm all over that option. but chances are, i will react more to saving the baby and the baby alone. i love dogs, we have 2.....but i don't love them so much as i wouldn't eat them in a pinch. i love the humane society, neutering/spaying animals, i'm totally against beating animals and i think those ppl should be in prison........but again, human life is much more important. IMO.

You can respect someone without agreeing with him/her.

True Swissmiss04, you can respect someone without agreeing with him/her. I have many, many friends with vastly different views than me ranging on every subject out there, from Politics, to Religion. I completely respect them.

However, it is not mandatory that I respect anyone, and I choose not to respect people that value the life of a dog over the life of a human. Just as I choose not to respect people like Charles Manson. Most all of us disagree with Charle's Manson's views on killing people, and most all of us do not respect him. No one's calling the respect-police on this one.
