For Your Information Lady, when you are traind as A Police Officer, You are not Trained to Be Wyatt Earp as everyone likes to call it! It aint like fucking TV! It is real Life!
A Police Officer is Trained to shoot at The Mass of the body! Why, so maybe some innocent victum will not be be hit!
When the adrenienal is pumping in certain situations, you cannot try to hit a leg, arm or any thing else!
How many Weapons have your every shot??? How many times have you had a weapon aimed at you or a knife drawn on you?
Well, how does never sound?!
Yes, I had God In My Hand, it was called a .357 Magnum and it was a terrible responsibilty! Live or die by my hand!
If it was between Them and I wanted it to be Them!

Too bad they didn't teach you to talk when you couldn't back it up - ever learn in a law class to never ask a question you don't know the answer to? I've shot a weapon quite a few times - a pistol and a rifle. I grew up in a military family and dated somebody who shot skeet in a league.
Don't tell me I don't understand weaponry or police tactics. Police can and are taught to aim for something besides the torso. How do I know this? Besides the generations of military in my family, my roommate from the sorority house is a cop.
Moving on, it still wasn't hazing.

Have you ever worn a uniform with a Badge and a Weapon, Da, probably not!
So what do you know other than reading some funky article about what happened!
I was very lucky in 7 years that I did not have to shoot anyone, I will tell you I was very damn close!
The Time between seconds do not count, you have miliseconds to decide and while trained to do certain things, human life is a strong deterent! But, you have just a short period of time, is it them or me?
Never talk about the shoes you have never worn!
Oh, how about the 3 Police Cars I had taken out from under Me when the good citizens did not see the red lights or hear the sirens! Damn lucky to be alive!

Tom.
No. I have never worn a badge, carried a gun, shot an unarmed college student, or sodomized an illegal alien with a nightstick. I'll concede, you have more experience that me in those areas.
Back to my point. If a cop isn't qualified to carry pepper spray then why is he carrying a gun? Why did the cop shoot in the first place? His life wasn't in danger. He was called because of noise.
PS. I don't care if you had 3 police cars taken out from under you. You were probably speeding and running through redlights which caused the accidents.

Figured my fellow BSUer would come out of hiding to comment. I was in Muncie the weekend it happened and everyone was immediately talking about the family getting a settlement, but I never knew how far they actually went with it. Good for them if they get it.

Gun or not, qualifications or not, etc, the main point here is that this particular incident was nowhere near hazing!

Is anyone one else's college participating in a video conference hazing seminar on Feb 24th?
I just got an email from our Greek Advisor who said we will be particiapting in it, and all our New Members are to attend to count as their mandatory anti-hazing lecture.
Guess who is one of the moderators...
Hank Nuwer
I knew the name sounded familiar, so I hopped back on GC and saw why...I think I might just attend to see what this guy has to say...
Here is a quote from the email...I can send more info if anyone wants it-
Quote:
Hank Nuwer has written four books on hazing, including Wrongs of Passage and The Hazing Reader. He is a frequent television commentator on hazing for CNN, the Fox Channel and Court TV. He is a 1999 distinguished alumnus of Buffalo State College.

Well no maxie, It was because people do not see red flashing lights or hear sirens or just do not pay attention! I was the one hit by Idiots who are much worse today than then!
GP, wow, when did the military tell their people to shoot in the leg or arm???? BS, they are trained to shoot with fully automated weapons, not hand guns or shot guns!
Some of the examples are proven to be wrong as were stated here!
As an idividual who wears a Badge and Carries a weapon, you have a very short time in which to react to shoot or dont shoot!
Now, who would you rather be, the one laying on the ground bleeding or the other guy!????
Have you ever been shot, cut, bit, smaked, kicked or anyother thing that will harm your person?!
If you have never walked in the shoes, dont try to walk the walk and talk the talk!

Tom, if you want to call my father or grandfather or uncle or greatuncle or roomie or roomie's husband to speak with them about this, they're all in the phone book.
And I have never been shot (THANKS MARQUETTE DPS!) but I have been cut, bit, smacked, kicked, punched, etc. Power puff can get brutal. And when I was buzy getting hazed in high school, I got quite a few other things too. It was Glenbrook North Lite.
I'm not "walking your walk" or talking your talk. I'm telling you what I know. Shooting to kill all the time is like pre-emption, it just shouldn't be done.
-GP, who fears for her live if all the cops are like you, because the ones in Milwaukee have killed enough innocent people and pets

Neither. Have you ever been shot at for knocking on the wrong door or making noise.
At what point was the cops life actually in danger?

I think one of the major issues in this case is the officer had so little training. He hadn't been sent to the Police Academy yet, wasn't certified yet to carry mace, yet was allowed to carry a gun, responded without waiting for back-up, then shot this student not once, but four times -3 in the chest and once in the face. I think people in the Ball State/Muncie community have the right to think this was an excessive response by an untrained officer. Granted, I do feel $100 million is too much to ask for, but I think the family is trying to garner attention to this case through the high damages sought.
