HAAAY!!!!
As far as the question goes, I've told my undergrads that if I get phone calls from anybody's parents, they are in trouble...
If I see bruises on any girls body, they are in trouble...
If I get a call from somebody's school psychological, student health services, they are in trouble...
And my Regional Director is from my chapter!!! So, no funny business can happen, 'cuz pearls are being actively pulled--at least in my Cluster...
My Undergrad Sorors have been very sweet. If they have intimidated a girl, that is borderline "hazing", but then, what is a job interview anyways??? They may have pulled the wool over my eyes, but so far, nobody's parents called me. In fact, I've called them!!!
As far as having unauthorized, outside of MIP, non-initiated girl, history "sessions" in the library--If I roll up in there, I'd want my greeting, too... But, then, I'd havta tell my undergrad sorors to stop. Really, the interests outta be doing that chit on they own... But that is borderline hazing...
But if the undergrads are gonna do it regardless what we tell them--then they may as well do it right--and be ADVISED that they could be caught--And I've told them I will disavow any and all information--That's why my chapter is Mission Impossible... And I'm called The Matrix...

I saw this yesterday....didn't know how to reply...
However, being an individual who has served her 'time' as an undergrad (2 years 4 mo susp.) and one in a unique position now, I truly believe in CYA....basically, if there is evidence and you are being called by parents...you need to cover your xxxxx!
As I get older, I start seeing things differently -- looking at the bigger picture...such as the welfare and future of our illustrious organization. Therefore, we must follow our rules and regulations. If we don't follow and respect them...who will?
(Don't jump on me all at once Sorors (smile)!!!

There are other things that are problems but I just went to the extreme right Eclipse. I never ever hope it is that it is that serious where someone's life is in danger or their immediate well being! To all you interest out there no process is serious enough to put your health at risk.

Point of Inquirey:
Was anyone injured? How severe? What is the nature of the infraction? Witnesses?

We all know that there is a difference in joining Grad chapters vs. undergrad when there was the unilateral switch to "processes" in all NPHC affiliates...
Therefore, the little "innocent" stuff cain't happen no mo'--such as making up chants for the Dean of Pledges, giving gifts to all the big sisters, all line sisters/brothers wearing the same clothing at all times, walking with a purpose and being in on line--trudging--I guess they call it these days...
When I spoke to my Soror Mom that we couldn't do that stuff anymore, she--the Silver Star--said "Hey, that's the FUN stuff!!!"
But then folks havta take too far, folks got killt and folx sued and won...
That's why there was a moratorium and a massive switch to MIPing --hence, numerous undergrad chapters went underground to still get that "flava"...
Just goto www.kazodiass.com to see all the stuff "they" say 'bout skaters and all...
So, if I tell them in my monotone voice 'cuz I've yelled it, I've screamed it, I've cursed them owt, I've repeated it 1000 times, over and over again--"No, don't, stop, suspend, relax, release, pearls pulled, expelled, exhale..." and it doesn't make a difference, then I feel I may as well ADVISE them that they can get caught. And if they are stupid enuf to get caught--I WILL act "GRAD" and disavow any and all information... Which I might get them into more trouble-- And it means, they chit gotta be tight... 'Specially when The Matrix has you...
So when some undergrad sorors, fellow sorority sisters and brothers come upto me asking 'bout it, 'bout it and saying that any true to life "skater" who comes all out with ill-deserved 'nalia-ed out, hatin' on the hard work pledges go thru that gets the chapter awards for charter keepin' and the greeks know they will be ostracizingly ugly and mean--I say:
Be nice...
And if you can't be nice, don't be harsh...
And if you havta be harsh, don't be severe...
And love one another and I have loved you--so you must love one another...

Soror I feel you strongly on what u said. I feel you loose that special bond going thru MIP. As long as there are no bruises and just some mind games no harm is done. Hopefully one day things will return to the way they were.

Someone made reference, once again to the "skater" issue. Most undergrads will fight to keep the process intact. Many of you know it's not all that simple to do--even with the simple stuff. However, I will ditto one of the other Sorors. If I warned you to chill and you did something stupid to bring it out--then my pearls will not be involved in the snatching. But one thing I simply cannot and will not do however is put my ls out there so ....I plead the 8th on that one.

Greetings Sorors!!! I typically stay silent while here in greekchat but this topic really compelled me to respond.
There is almost NO WAY that I would be able to turn in my undergrad chapter or any other chapter for pledging. Let's remember, there is a difference between hazing and pledging. They would have to be doing some really bad stuff (anything immoral or that would compromise someone's integrity)for me to turn them in. And I would still find some other way to handle the situation before I turned them in. That's the LAST choice.
I firmly believe that the process is what makes a soror. You cannot learn about sisterhood, commitment, dedication, etc without it. How would you learn all that you need to know? Let's also remember that the real pledging starts AFTER you get your letters! "Paper" or "real" if all you do is throw your pinkie up, party hop, or wear letters, you get NO respect from me. If you're a hard worker and are committed to Alpha Kappa Alpha then you're alright.
Sorry that this is long but.....that's just me!

Soror SeriousAKA, you are exactly right!!
Being a neo, I can attest that the 'real' pledging startes AFTER you get your letters. The MIP experience will be different for every person, every line, and every chapter. MIP is not the only place and time a line and/or chapter can form the bonds of sisterhood or brotherhood.
THIS IS A LIFELONG COMMITTMENT (Keep that in mind Serious SF's). Bonding doesn't end at MIP.

I just love the way we just ASSUME that the undergrads are the only one's pledging and hazing
