Whatever doctor actually wrote that on the birth certificate should lose his license!

My Great Aunt's parents named her Thelma Mary (and this was a long time ago so Thelma was ok) but the doctor decided he didn't like the name Thelma so he put Mary Thelma on the birth certificate.

What cracks me up is families with inconsistant names...like either the kids are: Kriestael, Aenthonie, Tanea, and Jennifer WTF? After all that and Jennifer? Or the opposite: Mary, Adam, William, Thomas, and Shaikirai....if you're going to be weird....just be weird (although I don't prefer it) if you're going to be normal, stay normal...

I'm with all you guys.

Some names should just be BANNED! Bertha is a pretty good example! I don't know why, but Penny bothers me.

For guys-Dick for obvious reasons. Once I met a guy named Pud. Where I came from, it meant the same thing as Dick.
He was Hubby's fraternity brother. I never could look him in the eye and say his name-I always started laughing. I'm laughing now just remembering it!

On that site, click on the right-hand link about "you think we're kidding, see proof here!" and scroll down to the bottom to check out that girl's name. It's some weird made-up name that is seriously loooooooooong -- and it means "child of the mother conceived by father's desire".

Ummm...yeah.

It says that the kids in her class called her "Kiwanis" but were trying to learn her whole name...sure, so they can yell
"Hey Kiwanisamanjajajajauggabuggablahblahblah, YOU'RE A FREAK!!!"

Poor kid.

lol....this is funny.

ok, i don't like names that can be shortened. melissa=missy, nicole=nikki....if they stay as they are, it's not bad, but i HATE missy. it's horrible. i don't like miranda for some reason, and crystal was the name of this chick i went to church with back in the day that was trailor ho trash, so it kinda doesn't sit well with me.

names like shananay, or shanequa also annoy me...they fall in the same category as bambi or mitsy....who takes these ppl seriously? which is wrong, yeah, but c'mon. anything that can all too easily name a dog (brandy--even though my best friend from bama is named this, ginger, etc.) also won't be on my child's birth certificate.

some "old" names are pretty (claire, alice, emma, evelyn, etc.), but then yeah there's bertha, for pete's sake, or even worse, agnus.....yikes

i've heard several "shithead" stories.....as well as orangejello/lemonjello pronounced "or-onj-elo"/lay-monj-elo"

Currently, my boss is trying to find a replacement for our secretary. There's this woman who keeps sending in her resume and her name is Precious Angel. Luckily, her credentials are not matching the job requirement but even still my boss was saying, "How would anyone be able to take her seriously with that name? She sounds like a porn star or a stripper." I would NEVER do that to my child.

When I was in elementary school one of my classmates had a hamster named Dwight. When he got another hamster a little while later, he named it D'Black.

Now that's all well and good for hamsters and it cracked me up when I was in third grade, but I can completely see some people doing that to their kids. Maybe not as bad as Orangejello and Lemonjello, but still pretty bad.

Also, there was a girl that went to my high school named Patience Virgin. "Virgin" was her last name but I still don't know what her parents were thinking.

there was a girl i went to high school with who's name was Erica, but spelled Eireka. She had said her parents wanted it to be spelled Erika, but the doctor spelled it wrong on the birth certificate.

I also think it's harsh to give your kid a name from your own cultural background, that is almost unpronouncabile in English, or means something bad in English (unless it is a last name, which would be unavoidable). It's fine to name your kid something ethnic, but if it sounds like a swear word, then don't. Also, I personally prefer that parents combine ethnic names with non ethnic names. For example, a Chinese Canadian family might name their daughter Katherine Mei Ling Wong

Oh yeah I went to school with Jake Hunt... try sayin that fast. Morning announcements about sports were great when his name was said.

ETA: Alot of the names on one of the sites that are deemed "bad" I really like! Such as Jaden, and definately Brooklyn!

I went to High School with a gal whose name is/was......this is for real...................not a nickname.......................can't imagine what her parents were thinking.....................were they thinking?.................

Twinkle Star!!!!

Planning names that are not too common can be difficult. I knew of no Amanda's when I was a kid. Fell in love with the name when John Jake's The Bastard was first released. Named my daughter Amanda figuring it was a good old fashioned name. You guessed it, 1986, Amanda was one of the more popular names. There were 4 in her girl scout troop!

Son is named Matthew. Turns out to be the big name of 1989. He was a NICU baby. There were 4 Matthew's in the NICU. Afraid to see how many were in the well-baby nursery.

One year, daughter had two kids in her class-- boy August, girl September. I kept wondering where April, May and June were.

I was watching "Babies: Special Delivery" on Discovery Health yesterday and one of the couples named their daughter Promise Elizabeth. I hope that girl goes by Elizabeth!
