and i thought i was the only one who found their photographs disgusting! i have not laughed this hard in a while!! i took my tenth grade daughter by my sorority house a while back and we were hysterical over the "stylish" hair-dos on the composites--every decade had their curse(50's and 60's bee hives, 70's farrah fawcett or tennille of capt. and tennille fame, 80's the pouf bangs, etc.)!! why do we let the hair stylists do this to us??

I just love slipping off my bra straps and putting on that monstrosity of a thing that is all stanky so I look more "revealing." One year, in the big hair 80s, my chapter wore white frilly blouses instead. While I hate those too, at least they looked a little more individual.

Hahahaha! We love going through the old composites and picking out our favorites. My favorite is the composite from the 1980s. One girl has the worst dye job I had ever seen, crazy mall bangs and a side part (I don't know how she kept her head from tipping over), and a horsey face. On the same composite there is a girl with a giant floppy white bow on her head. Granted I used to have one of those two, but I was six at the time. It was different.
Over the summer, our house mom hung up the composite from when our current alum advisor was president of our chapter. She had awesome mall bangs back then and we love to tease her about it.

The drape is horrible. This year, my chapter decided we'd wear those little short-sleeved white button-up shirts instead of the drape. So, some of my sisters went out and bought a small, a medium, a large, and an XL from Wal-Mart, which would've been a good idea, except for the fact that even the XL wouldn't fit those of us who were more, shall we say, well-endowed. So I (along with several others) ended up in our vice-president's fiance's dress shirt.
Add that to the fact that I have really long, really thin dark hair that the photographer slicked down on either side of my head, so it looks like i'm wearing one of those knit hats with the long earflaps...lovely.

Oh, and if the photog tells you to smile with your mouth closed and you never smile like that...DON'T. I had one proof where the photog made me do that and I look like I'm ready to beat on someone with brass knuckles.

Back in the 80's, our chapter apparently decided that wearing the high-collared turquoise shirt was the "in" thing. What were they thinking? As much as I hate the drape, I'll take it any day as long as we don't go back to 80's style!

*shudder* Ooohhh.... the wretched drape!
It never fits!!!! We had our pictures taken in the student union this year... which resulted in me at one point standing in front of a whole crowd of students in my bra as that stupid stupid thing decides that it really doesn't want to be on me anymore... Grr...
Also, AOPi gets red drapes here! They're pretty snazzy, as far as drapes go. Does anyone know how to get different colors?

We always got red drapes. I think all you have to do is ask, although I'm guessing a lot of chapters just pick black because it is overall the most flattering.
I kicked and screamed when we went to drapes - "you're stifling our individuality!" - but now I think the ones where everyone just wears whatever look messy. The same shirt in different colors might be a good compromise.
