We'll accept curling. But if you aren't going to watch that either I'm forced to agree with Jill1228

I enjoy CFL, but then again I'm not a TiCats fan . I much prefer hockey over football but since Lions games aren't sold out and are waaaaay cheaper than Canucks games, I've been watching them live lately.
When I refer to football I am usually referring to CFL/NFL football. But because my family is english, I will sometimes refer to soccer as football - confused yet

Thank goodness I am not going for citizenship. I hate curling! WTF is it anyway, besides frustrated people with nothing to clean (they can take that energy they have with the brooms and come to me house!) I do wanna see the movie "Men with Brooms" because of Paul Gross....what a hottie!

I think curling is one of those sports that's really fun to play but really REALLY boring to watch.
I curled in highschool and I had a blastm but I can't watch it on tv. It's huge in the prairies.
Definitly see "Men with Brooms" while Paul Gross is a hottie is a really funny movie too!

I forgot to factor in love of curling... if you're cool with that, you can definately stay
Do you curl? or just watch? Curling is something I think everyone should try at least once - sooo much fun!
(btw, I love watching curling on tv - I can't understand why people think it's boring)

In Canada:
Football is NFL and CFL (i.e. the orange ball with the pointy ends)
Soccer is the sport with the white ball with black bits on it.
When World Cup Soccer is on, I call it "football" to be cheeky, since 90% of the rest of the world calls soccer football.
And just to further...since we're talking about the British Empire...
In Australia:
NFL style Football is called "gridiron"
Soccer is Soccer
Rugby is Rugby (more played in New South Wales state [where Sydney is] & New Zealand) and
Football refers to Aussie Rules Football (more played in the state of Victoria, where Melbourne is). It is kind of like a cross between rugby and basketball and soccer...i.e. can't run with the ball, you have to bounce it or kick it..you can't throw it...weird, I know. It was developed to keep the cricketers in shape during the winter (odd, I know, but 'tis true).
http://afl.com.au/ is where you will see men with nice bodies.
They call it "footy" for short.

Thanks for the info, CP2K! You definitely always seem to know what's up with things
Speaking of cricket, is that widely played in Canada? Could just be a European/Mid Eastern thing. I know that Mr. KillarneyRose came back from his 6 months in the United Arab Emerites last year a big fan of cricket since he had no baseball to watch there.

Cricket is pretty big with some groups here in Canada; mostly the East Indian cummunity (along with some other interesting games). I've been to a couple of games (there on my way to work in the summer) and it looks like a game that takes a fair amount of skill to master.

Cricket is primarily very popular with people from India who are now living in Canada. (Also with ex-pats from South Africa, and other countries of the British Empire). This is largely due to the huge British presence that at one time, existed in India. Once in a while, I'll see people playing cricket, and yeah, it's usually Indo-Canadian looking people.
Rugby is pretty popular, both at high school and at the club level.
None of my schools really had a "football" program, although I think it could be due to the expense.
Canada is influenced by America, much more so than any of her "British Empire" siblings: Australia, South Africa, etc...you see more of the 'British sports" (cricket, etc.)

I just watch - but I'm trying to get a group of people in my classes to go out and curl this winter.
I absolutely LOVE watching curling on TV - especially the Tournament of Hearts!
