Where were you when the lights went out? - Page 2

You know what is terrible... here in Cali we have a radio station that is running this commercial and it starts out "we here at Live 105 care about our friends on the east coast and really depend on them, so we have come up with a solution... California needs money, New York needs power" Why don't we californians, for a nominal fee to those in need, string our extension cords across the country to our friends on the east coast to help them out then everybody's problems will be solved. Kinda wrong of them to make lite of such a horrible occurance... but I have to admit I did giggle at the thought of all those extension cords reaching across the country... I'm just glad everyone here seems to have been relatively safe I would hate to have gotten stuck in an elevator or the subway or something....

I have a HUGE fear of elevators. I look at one, and tense up. My mom kept telling me to look at the TV at some people stuck in one and I couldn't even look at it!

Next time I'm in NY.... I'm never ever riding in the subway again!

I was playing Play Station 2 and I thought my niece shut my game off cuz she kept messing with it.

I was at school when the lights went out. When I got to Downtown Cleveland to transfer to another bus to get home, it was Almost kaos, but everyone got home safe. Our power didn't come until late friday morning.

Oh, I don't know. Ohio provided Presidents Grant and Taft (the present governors grandfather, I believe), arguably two of the worst in history.

And then, there's last year's Ohio State Football team, who, arguably, gave us one of the best games in history.

I was at my boyfriend's home when the power went out. I thought that it was just his apartment and kept flipping the switches in the power box. It did nothing. It finally dawned on me what was happening when I heard cars honking like crazy. Oh crap it's a blackout! We were without poweruntil 4:30 PM, water until 6:30, and hot water until Saturday morning. My shower this morning was the best one ever!

Ya know, I'm really surprised they didn't sacrifice the midwest's energy and transfer it to the east coast..they've done it before.

But anyway..when the lights went out I was chilling in the AC crusing on GC...teehee..and laughing at the people that think 90 degree weather is really hot..buncha wimps

I was at my internship in NYC when the power went out...actually, I was going to the bathroom! I stayed in the stall for a few minutes thinking the power would go on, but it never did. So I got out of the bathroom and went into the office to find out what was going on and found out about the blackout. Then I walked down the 12 flights of stairs into the masses of people pouring out into the sidewalks and streets. I ended up walking from Madison Ave. and 55th Street to Port Authority to see if there were going to be any buses running anytime soon. But I was surrounded by thousands of other people, and started to feel a lil claustrophobic and decided to make the long trek to my dad's office all the way on 14th Street and Irving Place. To make the long story short, I slept uncomfortably on two chairs in my dad's office since I was stranded in NYC until the morning. Then my dad and I took the path home around 11am the next day. Although I had to sleep in NYC, I was fortunate enough to have a place to pass out that night, unlike those who were forced to sleep on the streets.

I was taking a nap. I woke up and was like, "Why is it so hot in here??" And then my mom told me what happened.

Well since I live in VA, I wasn't affected by the power outage. But the power used to go out at my apartment complex all the time when they were doing road construction right next to it, so I know what it's like to go for hours without power. One time, our power went out when I was in the middle of cooking dinner, and it didn't come back on for hours, so I had to throw everything away. I had just bought it so I was pretty mad.

I can only imagine how bad it must have been to have entire big cities blackout... My first thought when I saw it on the news was, "Oh my... wouldn't it suck to be stuck in an elevator?" Glad nothing too serious happened though

Well I was in a plane coming back from Mexico. My plane landed in JFK at like 8, but there was only one terminal open and there was a plane in it and then there was a line for it so we had to sit and wait in the plane. Then because of the blackout, transportation wasn't running so taking a cab was our only way of getting home. It was also the only way of getting home for just about everyone else, so it took us an hour and a half just to get a cab (how often does that happen in NYC?) By the time we got home it was like 1am.
