In no particular order, here we go, now these are REALLY a must
BEST ALL AROUND -- The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (the greatest story ever told. period. listed as one cuz it's ONE MOVIE, I highly suggest reading the books, read them like 3 times and see if it doesn't change your life!)
BEST "UNDERDOG" -- Donnie Darko
BEST COMEDY (for engineers...) -- Office Space
BEST COMEDY (for all college students) -- Van Wilder
BEST SCARY MOVIE -- The Ring
BEST MOVIE TO WATCH DRUNK -- Evil Dead 2 OR Army of Darkness
AND JUST FOR SHIT AND GIGGLES -- Airheads

Jerry Maguire
The Color Purple
Dead Poets Society
and the list could go on and on...

AXPGoBot: You are absolutely right. The books are incredible. The more you read them, the more you get from them.
I can't wait to see how P. Jackson handles two key scenes in "Return of the King." The scene in the turret and another one I won't mention for fear of spoiling it for others who haven't read the books. (We should start a separate LotR thread!)
