Well it is a bit like what I did for the college and the house this year so here goes:

First off talk to my sister (Lindsey) about using our cottage. Second you need to alternate between planning (formal) and bonding (informal).... a tight team recruits better. Third, I don't know if you can have a theme at the house during formal... but try to think of something that is acceptable that will make you house more memorable (something to help them remember... oh yeah that was the Gammas). Fifth make sure that the girls are full of energy when meeting the girls; if they need to step back and take a break let them. Sixth make sure to promote all aspects of the house: social, academic, philanthropy, ritual, friendship, history, and networking (you never know what will attract people). Finally be honest with the girls.... if everything sounds perfect, they'll know you hidding stuff...... so let them know what the chapter plans on improving <MINOR THINGS> (it looks good if you can identify a fault and are correcting it).

Hope this helps

First thing that came to my mind when you said where you are and when you're doing is was camping...definitely can be a great bonding experience for everyone! Might want to check with local parks etc. about that. For one of our house retreats, we went to a local park that had a low ropes course, so we split off into groups to complete that...surprisingly fun and good bonding as well. Basic thing to keep in mind is to do something everyone can do together or at least in decent-sized groups (avoiding separations into cliques/small groups as much as possible). If you do participate in an activity that requires groups, make sure they're not too small, and try to put people in groups that don't normally hang out a ton, it's always nice to get to know everyone better. Another good idea is a volunteer day...contact a children's center, shelter, YMCA, humane society, etc. and talk to whoever's in charge about bringing the whole group down to do some good deeds. Everyone will have fun doing it and feel really good about themselves at the end of the day! (Plus you get your community service hours done ) Hope this helps!! Keep us posted on what you end up doing and have fun!

  • Red Carpet (dress up as your favorite celeb)
  • Nuts and Bolts (overdone but still fun)
  • Red Light, Green Light (wear a red shirt if involved with someone, a yellow shirt if seeing someone, a green shirt if single)
  • Pajama Party (actually a ton of fun)
  • $5 prom (outfits from goodwill)
  • Angels and Devils (make the boys be the angels)

we did "G.I. G Phi" for one event - super fun!! You could also try Boogie Nights/Studio 54, School Ties, High School Cliques, Blazing Saddles, Super Heroes, Things that start with (random letter), Senioritas and Margaritas, Dress to Impress... etc. Actually really weird, my roomie last year was Molly Hotaling, who was a Gamma Phi at your school, SMU before she transferred over here to USD!! rad!

Retret Ideas

Hey,
I am the newly elected me vp of my chapter. Part of the jobs as most of you proably know is to run a retreat. However, somewhere through the past years we lost alot of traditons and duties, one of which was the having a retreat. We have never ran and over nite/ weekend one before. To give you an idea of how far behind we are this semester we attempted to have one and thought it went very well, it only lasted a few hours. With all that said, if anyone has any ideas for retreats referring to anything, ice breakers, topics to discuss, activities to do, etc. Please let me know! I really want to have a successful one this semester to help our chapter continue on getting back on track. Thanks for all your help!!!

Love in IIKE,
Kate

I went to the retreat (one day of it) that the Gamma Epsilon chapter had in the Fall for their full exec board and they pretty much discussed EVERYTHING. The two big items I saw were the budget (seemed to take forever) and brainstorming for mixers for the year (what theme and who to have it with). They styed at the chapter advisor's house and I believe they left for ,unch and dinner.

They probably had about 20-25 girls (the house is at about 80).

They went line by line through the budget and I would, in NO way, recommend that. It was the most useless, BORING thing I've sat through. The officers should have been better prepared to quickly discuss what they thought they needed.

But, I think a few of the other actives on here will be better able to help you.............

in IIKE,
Melanie
