Wasn't that picture the cover of Janet? If so, it had much more relevance being on what was then the foremost magazine of the music world, than what Britney Spears being on the cover of Elle does. After all, it was her first release in years, and she had completely changed her image.

I think that line needs to be repeated.

I suspected long ago that the Christian virgin thing was a ploy on the part of her amazing PR staff to improve her image. They knew that she would inevitably get painted as a white trash harlot, and had to make her appeal to middle America in some way. I'm sure they just didn't expect her to be in a serious relationship before her 15 minutes were up.

ETA: I just saw the picture. That's it? Not too scandalous, but you can bet Wal-Mart (no doubt her biggest sales outlet) won't be selling it.

Well, yeah Wal-Mart won't be selling the mag because it's British Elle. You have to go to Borders or Barnes & Noble for that. In any case, yes, she's trying to get the word out about herself and her album with the sexy pics in Elle and W. But, other celebs do the same thing. It doesn't make her desperate it's just part of the publicity game. No shame in that.

Ms. Spears is very popular. But I would think that a fashion magazine with an upscale sheen wouldn't pick a low-common-denominator entertainer. I was also p***ed when American Vogue put her on its cover a couple of years ago.

And, she is beautiful.

And, she can't sing.

Certainly can dance, though.

i have to agree with the poor white trash thing
my friend was talking about her cousin from this backwoods arkansas town
apparently this girl is really hot, she's coming to college here
and she's staying with my friend's family
my friend is worried that her cousin is going to become the 'city whore'
she's like 5 11, blonde, and skins and bones
i told my friend that her cousin, if fixed up, could end up being a jackpot for her

we'll see though

most of the time, these girls just have to be fixed up

Britney is a beautiful girl. And she seriously can dance.

I have to give her credit for getting out of Kentwood, LA. That area of LA is very close-knit, every one is pretty much on the same social level.

I don't think they'd appreciate being called "poor white trash"

I have classmates who are from neighboring towns. They are not poor white trash. They are friends of Britney's family. One guy in my class, his parents stayed at Brit's condo in Destin a few weeks ago.

She did what she had to do to get her career going. Period. I don't agree with all of the things she's done, but I applaud her tenacity and drive to succede.

Almost all of you guys are WAY too hard on Britney! I love her music, her dancing, and CANNOT wait for her new CD to come out in October. I'm happy to see her on the cover of British Elle

Britney is using her image as a tool just as other entertainers use political ideologies to sell their message. She produces a product geared toward a certain demographic, they will decide whether they want to continue to support her or not. But i'm sure her next release(s) will garner the same level of revenue as they have in the past. Either way, she has more money than any of us.

I was born and raised in Destin. The natives have money, but most of the tourists don't. It's not called the "Redneck Riviera" for nothing.

I'll lay off Britney for right now. I just prefer my artists with more talent.
