Well, I was in Tau Beta Sigma and mostly people would say: does that stand for "The Band Sorority"?

Try explaining the greek letter Rho. When I wear my letters, people can usually figure out the sigma and the gamma, then they get to the rho and ask 'what does the P (read pee, no pun intended) stand for?'. I explain it is the greek letter for R, and they are still confused.
The worst, like someone said, is when you meet another Greek and they don't know the greek alphabet.

When Express had those sweatshirts out that had "E X P" in the big sewn on letters, I kept thinking there was a new sorority named Epsilon Chi Rho.

Back in my undergrad days in college, there used to be a Greek directory published that listed active members of fraternities and sororities at OU. Because the list was computer generated and the printer did not have the ability of printing Greek letters, they came up with unusual three-letter or four letter abbreviations for fraternities and sororities:
Alpha Sigma Phi = ASP
Kappa Alpha Theta = KAO
Delta Gamma = DG
Delta Upsilon = DU
Alpha Chi Omega = AXO
Sigma Nu = SN
Sigma Chi = SX
Pi Kappa Alpha = PKA
Phi Delta Theta = PDT
Lambda Chi Alpha = LXA
Pi Kappa Phi = PKP
Phi Kappa Sigma = PKS
Phi Kappa Psi =PKY
Phi Gamma Delta = FIJI
Delta Delta Delta = DDD
Pi Beta Phi = PIPHI
Kappa Delta = KD
Zeta Tau Alpha = ZTA
Beta Theta Pi = BETA
Alpha Gamma Delta = AGD
Gamma Phi Beta = GPB
Alpha Tau Omega = ATO
Sigma Sigma Sigma = SSS
Kappa Alpha Order = KA
Alpha Epsilon Pi = AEP
Tau Kappa Epsilon = TKE
Delta Chi = DX
Kappa Kappa Gamma = KKG
Alpha Phi Alpha = APA
Kappa Alpha Psi = KAY
Phi Beta Sigma = PBS
Alpha Kappa Alpha = AKA
Zeta Phi Beta = ZPB
I don't know if this directory is published anymore, though - it used to be available at shops on campus that sold Greek merchandise.

When people see my letters, it's usually one of three things:
"Kappa Kappa... Tau?"
"Kappa Kappa... Rho?"
Or my favorite, "K K... what's that thing?"
My XBF was a little slow on the uptake, and he once said, "Why is it Kappa Kappa Gamma? It should be Kappa Kappa Kappa-- that'd look cooler." I responded, "No, Cole, that'd look like the Klan."
Funny note: when I got our pledge pin (a Delta enclosing a Sigma) and letters tattooed on my ankle, the tattoo artist kept calling the Delta a triangle, the Sigma a "backwards-E-thingie," and the Gamma an "upside-down L." I guess it was good for him to have a frame of reference for them.

I remember when we still had our local letters (Alpha Theta Phi) we would get "Alpha somethin' somethin' "

We got this horrible shirt a few years ago that had serifs that looked like bubbles. Since then, we've been dubbed the "Rob" house. I suppose it's better than some of our less desirable nicknames.
