I'm a Billy Joel fan -- not a huge one. Great show, though. The dance was remarkable, and how Cavanaugh can sing that show several times a week without completely losing his voice is beyone me. I'll just reiterate, the dancing was fantastic. Fantastic.
Hairspray was lot of fun. Certainly not deep at all, but really good entertainment. Being a child of the sixties, it was neat to relate it to "Bandstand" -- for those of you who might remember that.
Nine was good, but the first act was pretty long. Bandaras was, by far, the best actor I've seen in a musical in a long time. Body language and gestures showed a real depth as an actor -- not just a great singing voice who can dance. Was just a little disappointed with Jane Krakowski. Don't misunderstand -- she sang well and was very good at doing what her part demanded -- standing around looking very sexy. Not much else to the part, though. Chita Rivera was fine. Mary Stuart Masterson was also excellent.
I was at the end of a very intense week of freelance work, and was ready for some just plain entertainment -- all three fit that bill just fine.
