Tony Awards...?

I was just wondering if anyone else was watching the Tony Awards.....They're always a big deal around here, we usually have a viewing party or something of that sort....:( not this year though!

I hope TAKE ME OUT wins. If anyone's seen the show....Oh, it's incredible. (9 naked men, on stage, SHOWERING...whoa.)

Anyone else...or am I the only seriously Broadway obsessed GC-er???

Good show this year!

Mrs. DeltAlum has a degree in theatre, and pretty much our whole family is involved (except me, I'm just a fan).

Oldest daughter who is married to an actor/director and does a lot of local professional theatre had a party at their house.

Youngest son who is home from college for the summer had friends from his high school theatre experiences over to our house.

I'm flying in to NY on Wednesday for some Freelance TV stuff up in CT, and then taking a couple extra days in the city at the end of the project.

Hard decision on what to try to see...

way to go...

and a good show, too.
tonys are a favorite...

DeltAlum- you MUST (I REPEAT MUST) see TAKE ME OUT. It is such an awesome play. It is so clever and witty- the writing is phenonminal. You'll adore it! (My GOODness I'm gushing! haha)

For a musical- I recommend "La Boheme," "Millie," or of course "Aida" :)

have fun!

DeltAlum 06-10-2003 12:48 AM

LuaBlanca,

Thanks for the advice. I've seen Aida in both NY just after it opened (Heather Headley and Adam Pascal) and Denver, so that cuts it down a little.

Still a tough decision.

In a couple of years, watch for a show called "Brooklyn." It just had a "trial baloon" here in Denver, is moving to Hartford, I think, then Off Broadway. Saw it last weekend.

It is absolutely amazing. Daughter number one, a really tough theatre critic says it's the best thing she's ever seen.

(Um...Pretty sure men in a shower won't do much for me)

No one knows how excited I am to see this thread... good to see other Broadway obsessed GC-ers :)

Watched the whole thing and have it on tape. I got to see Movin' Out back in January over Winter Break- I was so happy to see Billy Joel open with the cast of the musical. Michael Cavanaugh is from a nearby suburb of Cleveland.

The guy who won for supporting actor is also originally from Cleveland. I didn't get to see Hairspray, but from what I understand it deserved all the Tony's it did win.

Sorry, I'm just a dorky Theatre major that got super excited to see theatre related stuff on the boards :D

Dixie,

There was another thread a while ago about favorite musicals.

http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...vorite+musical

And one about people in performing arts.

Do you go to school in Ohio?

Mrs. DeltAlum has a theatre degree from Ohio University -- we met in an Oral Interpretation of Literature class there.

Thanks for the links- good to see all the performing arts fans!

I go to Baldwin Wallace College in Berea. I'm *technically* a Theatre Management major (theater major with a business management minor). What is Mrs. DeltAlum doing with her degree now that she's out of school?

I am a few blocks from the best theatre, museums, and art in the country, but I haven't utilized these resources in almost a year. I need to make my BF take me to see something. :)

I feel you on that one, Cream! I usually see shows when people are in town visiting! Bad us!

Early on she acted in summer stock as well as taught HS theatre and speech.

After that it was important to her to be home with the three kids. Now, she supports two of the three who are heavily into theatre in professional companies and college.

By the way, a few years ago we decided that instead of trying to be creative in terms of Christmas presents, that we would buy each other season tickets to the Broadway series at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts -- which is excellent. It was a great idea!

Just back from NY.

Saw "Movin' Out, Hairspray and Nine." Had to do standing room only for a couple of them.

Fun anyway.

Peaches-n-Cream 06-22-2003 12:47 AM

I am going to see Man of La Mancha on Tuesday and maybe the Helen Hunt play on Wed. (I can't think of the name.) Psyche! :D They are supposed to be good seats.

How'd you like them? I saw Movin' Out- I loved it, but I'm a huge Billy Joel fan, which probably played a part in that. I wanted to see the other two.
