Good luck!!!!
Remember to keep your relations w/the other sororities good. don't be the one to blow them off. We have a local that just started and was tooting their horn about 'challenging the greek system'...and then they didn't even attend ONE greek week event. Haven't had anyone apply for rho lambda, or order of omega... they are starting to annoy the established chapters...though the established ones are bonding over it..hum...anyhow, keep up the good work!!!!!

No one except for one sorority is really causing a stir. I hate to say it, but, they can rag on us all they want, we have a much better rep then they ever will. *nods* We all have friends in the other glo's and have already talked to many of the other members about this. Plus, it really helps that many of us are associated with TKE and have great friends in one of the oldest soro's on campus. The only big question we've been asked is why we haven't wanted to become apart of the already established sororities on campus. Now..that's fun part.

You know why, don't you? They know that if you succeed in getting a National to colonize your campus, they might not be able to compete. I don't know which group you're referring to, but I've heard less-than-flattering things about most of them so just take it with a grain of salt.

Is it because you want to be part of a National group?

And something else--do you know why ZOX and the other one didn't stay affiliated with their National chapters? I'm just wondering, especially since you mentioned that they incorporate a lot of the Nationals' history in their pledging process.

Dana, remember the PNM stalker I was telling you about. It's her sorority. I like a lot of the girls in that group, but she and a couple of others are the ones trying to make it difficult. Oh, pertaining to your first statement, you're completely correct. I mean, it's gotten to the point where I'll be walking across campus and girls will com up to me asking me about it. One, they much rather be in a National and two, many do not like the others on campus. We have the "Stereotypical's", "Uglies", "Who?", "They're dying aren't they?", and the Delta Theta's (I still love those girls to death But they're just not for me ) Oh, the nick's are from newbies on campus..oye..

Is it because you want to be part of a National group?

That for one is a "yes", but also locals can get away with ALOT in the matters of hazing. When I pledged, I was hazed, and one of my other girls she was hazed severely. Also, many of us want to chance to go to other schools and call others "sisters" <- sappy, but true

That's the one mystery I still can not unravel just of yet. One of my "new" best buds is a ZOX and me and her made plans to hang out, so I'm going to make sure I ask her. (I would have asked her before, but she's pretty upset with them right now)

One of the reasons I HAVE heard of them disassociating themselves from Nat'ls is do to the money. That's basically the only reason I have been able to get out of them.

Oh, tomorrow, FINALLY the first meeting of everyone

That's not sappy, it's a damned good answer.

Thumbs up First Meeting :)

Well, last night we had our very first meeting with -everyone- there Oh man, it freaking rocked! Everyone got along and was acting like best friends after like 5 minutes! You would not believe how stressed I was about everyone meeting eachother! We ended up hanging out at my pizza place for over an hour, then when we drove back to campus we hung outside for over an hour again. I mean, dag on, we completely clicked together, it's was so unearthly, hehe. It ended up being a COMPLETELY social meeting, that's for sure. We're going to get together next week to split up duties and actually have a somewhat constructive meeting, haha!

Oh, I told my mom about this "sorority deal" just about an hour ago. She's actually VERY supportive and even wants to be apart of contacting of the parents of future pledges and all! Talk about being weird...I mean...she was VERY anti-greek after my experience with pledging and even more so with MTV's SL 1&2. I think she's just wanting to help me make letter-shirts, that's our 'mother-daughter' time,

~ The now VERY happy and relieved Kayla

I'm so excited! Since I'm kinda sad about going alum soon, it's fun for me to read about people who are just starting their sorority experience...and in this case, it's especially interesting because you're starting from scratch!

Some advice for you...when my chapter was still a colony, our National consultant (who was awesome) constantly stressed publicity--we were encouraged to wear our letters as much as possible, do stuff like car washes to get our name out (and make $ as a bonus), anything to get people to recognize us...in a positive light, of course. It worked pretty darn well for us, so I think you really should get on it ASAP. You're not NPC yet, so that means you can recruit over the summer.

Oh, and about the sorority nicknames...I don't think it'd take me long to guess which one goes with which. Except the one about the group that's dying...I haven't been around enough to get that one.

Angry Quick Rant

This is going to be quick due to finals week...yea.

Okay, so I'm talking to one of my girls and I ask her when she's going to be free for a meeting. Well, now she's actually SCARED to go because she says the othr sororities are giving her a hard time and that they don't support this. GRRR!!!

Ya know, I'm getting closer and closer to just saying f*ck it and going to Ohio University.

Also, if theses "other sororities" have a problem with it, they need to FREAKIN' talk to ME! I'm the head of this and if they have any questions they need to see me, not just rely on some rumors they've heard. GRR! To the ones who have talked to me, everything is cool, but dammit people, I wish they would grow some serious balls. I'm trying to keep this together and the PROPER info out, but dag on it...grrr.

---end of rant---

Just what are they going to do to her? C'mon. Chain her to their picnic table and not let her go until she swears she won't go to a meeting of her OWN sorority?

No, don't do that. I've heard it's just like Rio, only bigger. One of my sorority sisters just transferred from there over the summer and affiliated with us, and she said the only good thing was the Halloween party.

All I can say is, get SZM recognized as an "official" group ASAP (step on some toes and play dirty if you have to). And tell all your members when the meeting is, and if they're in, they WILL show up. Sorry if I sound grouchy, but I have had a really crummy day as well--it's Finals Week here too--so I can definitely commiserate with you.

If I may add my 2 cents...

My local group had a hard time on our campus...and although I wasn't around for the entire time leading up to the school calling us a local, I was around when we were still a local group. Many of our sisters, and myself, sadly lost friends over what we believed in, our right to form a 5th sorority. We used to get 'hate posts' on our website guest books, some girls apts were egged, people had bumper stickers w/our letters taken off the car, etc etc etc. But my whole point of this is not to scare you or anything, but to actually say that it made us stronger as sisters. The more people put us down, the further we pushed and the more determined we got. After a semester, the other groups realized we were extremely strong and we weren't going anyway, so they finally voted for us to become a national GLO.

There are always going to be people in your way, but giving up will let them win. Stick to your guns.

On a positive sign, most of the girls that had huge objections to us have now graduated, and we the other sororities are getting used to us, and I daresay, we might actually be liked, mainly due to the fact that many of our new members, and the other groups new members missed the 'bad blood' that happend.

TKE209Sweethrt: please, feel free to PM or email me at any time. I've been there and would love to help (in some very very small way) another group succeed.

BEST WISHES!!!!

Sorry it's been so long since I posted! Summer sessions at school have taken over a big chunk of my life, lol! Well, all of us but 2 live within 15 min's of eachother so it's easy to get together. We're planning on a trip to Kings Island here soon, but if the weather doesn't ease up we'll have to plan something indoors, lol!

Later this week or early next week we're going to get together and work on the constitution and all. We all have so many ideas yet we just need to calm down and put them on paper!

PS: We may be changing the name again...lol...

I can't wait for your next post--it's so exciting to read about! I wish all the sisters of SZM the very best! As far as any negativity thrown your way, it's a great lesson in learning to carry yourself with dignity under any conditions. Not everyone's college experience contains such an amazing lesson and experience, so although it's uncomfortable now you'll be the better person for it in the long run. In addition your sisterhood will be that much stronger as well. Good luck.
